Prydwen.
I've been up there before on another playthrough but its been a while. Google says use the vertibird on the airport to gain access to it but there isn't one on the roof...What do I need to do in order to initiate it? I've looked for characters to talk to and couldn't find any.

First contact is usually by meeting Paladin Danse and joining up with the Brotherhood at Cambridge police station, rather than directly through the airport. It's only after joining that that you can access it from the ground-level part of the airport.

If I remember correctly, Brotherhood forces at the airport should even direct you to the police station if you approach them without having joined.

if wearing power armour you can just step off the prydwen, just don;t land on anyone you like.

Isn't it supposed to be a blimp? But then you go inside the balloon part. I didn't notice the characters there speaking like they're breathing helium.

The Prydwen actually is an airship with a rigid skeleton in the center and the lifting gas in compartments.
That's how it's been since the first Zeppelins in the 19th century.

A blimp is just a gas balloon in the same shape for aerodynamic steering purposes.

What compartments? I didn't notice any. They must be tiny.

Some leftover magic from Skyrim most likely. 🤷

There are five huge reservoirs along the spine surrounding the upper catwalks on the inside of prydwen.

The ratio of these objects with the weight and area of the rest of the ship make me think this isn't plausible without some Bioshock Infinite floating tech, but I will suspend my disbelief for the sake of a computer game.

Well maybe they've found a better way to get more lift out of the resource they're using. Or it may be a similar conundrum to the who keeps the torches lit and the coals/oil lit in the censors in all the caves in skyrim...No idea but it is neat nonetheless. :)

IIRC, Ingram mentions at some point that the Prydwen will overheat at some point because it needs to use engine power to keep it in its hovering position.

That's probably where her post-game radiant quest of fetching coolant tie in.

There's supposed to be a vertibird there at the Boston Airport, second floor, if you're a member of the BOS. It's there after Danse introduce you to Elder Hitler, I mean, Maxson.

If you're not a member of the BOS, you need the "Real working Jetpack" mod and some power armor.

Yeah, they're gonna shoot at you, but there's only three BOS you gotta kill on the flight deck, only the one in the power armor is a threat.
The real challenge is to eliminate the BOS on the Blimp of Steel and get that snazzy coat off Elder Hitler... I mean Maxson.
Just so you don't waste ammo, you might want the Killable Children mod too.

usually 1 to 3 "squires", smart mouth little boys who will catch you stealing. I keep thinking I missed a grown up and fire at them, but without the mod they're immortal so just ammo wasters. Gotta ask yourself, is a Squire's life worth wasting a few rounds of .308 or fusion cells? If no, get this mod.

Seemed weird how you spared the kids on the blimp when you were destroying it, but then proceed to blow it up anyway. I like to think the kids escaped in time...

I'm sure that Liberty Prime teleports the Children off the Blimp right before he blasts it from the sky, and that the RR make sure that all the BOS squires are evacuated right before they set the charges..
How do the Wuzziemen blow up the blimp? if at all.

I highly doubt that. The institute would of needed the exact coordinates to teleport the children off the Prydwen. If they were on it they're dead.

The RR 100% did not evacuate anybody since you literally gun your way through the BOS to set the charges which take it down. You can actually see them fleeing from the fighting if you make your way through the different decks. They're 100% dead.

Only people that get to evacuate is the people of the institute if you allow them to. If you don't issue the evac order however they also die.

The Vertibird that take you up to Prywden for the first time isn't on the second floor Verti Pad, it is sitting on the ground outside, slightly towards Fort Strong. Check Minimap - Detailed version.
