"You can do the Brotherhood of Steel ending without doing Blind Betrayal. You just have to do quests for the institute until you get the Mass Fusion quest. But don't relay to the Mass Fusion building, instead, go to the Brotherhood and warn them about the institute's plans. That will start Spoils of War and lead up to the Brotherhood ending without doing Blind Betrayal."

Someone did make a mod back in the early days to try this exact thing, to keep Danse on board and in good standing. IIRC the original idea was to push the quest ID and story arc to Paladin Brandis at Bunker Theta - the reason the whole squad got wiped and scuttled their PA was, you guessed it, I'M A CYLON! Oops I mean Synth! That was meant that, you'd go back, paste him as your Elder told you, not feel guilty in the least, and move on. But it never fully worked AFAIK and broke the game still. (and BoS would still be hostile to you if you companion'd with D, etc.)
Usually people that want Danse to stay BoS don't do BoS, they do Railroad takes out Institute line. No one's the wiser who's a synth and who's not, Danse stays on the airship.
No sorry I don't know if that subreddit post is accurate, but reddit isn't known for being polite if you got something factually wrong, so I'd assume it does work.
I mean, that's literally every companion.
This one just has with only one exception, the largest bulk to get in your way while doing...
just a matter of finding them
And never use console commands to complete or alter quests.
