Has anyone not push the button?
At the end of the Nuclear Option I waited a few minutes before I did. Thinking of all that I did to get to that point. Then after some time has passed I found out that someone died because I did deiced to push the button. Is it possible to walk away at that point? I just might have to do another play threw so I do not have the Nuclear Option as a quest. To not have that quest Do I joint the institute or what?

Yeah, the only way to spare the Institute is by joining it and doing their questline (which means the destruction of the Railroad and the Brotherhood).

Or...you can choose not to finish questline. To stop at some point and, yes, walk away. It's kinda late tho to reflect, when all is said and done and it came to the button put in front of you. Be real, you knew, where it comes. Even if you could just walk away, someone else would press it.

If I did not push it I think Des was there with me and she would have. Maybe she would not give me the note because it was for her? His death and Glory's was hard to take. I just kill the last of the L&L gang Maybe Glory will rest in peace now.

I remember in the Railroad ending there was someone inside the institute, a synth I think, that you had to meet up with and rescue before you blow the place up. But I just forgot about them and got a note from Des about it afterward. Ah well. I prefer the Minutemen ending where you don't have to kill the other two factions just because you did some of their quests.

I could have save the person that wrote me the note? no one was marked and I was not told to save anyone. Not a good ending for me.

Yeah I think the problem is that it's not clearly marked and you have to remember and go looking for them behind that door hiding in some closet. There's also retrieving the FEV lab cure for Virgil which isn't labelled and you have to remember. Weird how we can follow a pipboy for most of the game but it decides to let go of our hand from time to time then make us feel bad because of it.
I think there's this locked door with a corridor and a synth in a closet at the end. The lock is expert or master so even if you're fully exploring and looting the place you might miss it.
Anyway the Railroad ending is one of the most unfulfilling endings possible I reckon.

It was vary sad for me when I got the note. I did get the cure for Virgil just at the start and was just finding my way around and I don't think the cure was marked. I'm very dependent on my pip boy
Not an answer you were probably looking for, but there is a mod that allows you to finish the game by wasting all factions. So if you're feeling very murdery, you can still turn the Institute into a crater, you can bury the Railroad and blow the Brotherhood outta the sky. And then most peoples' wet dream: Shooting Preston Garvey in the face to prevent the Minutemen from ever coming back.

All of that in one run, from the scribblings of a mad man.

{sarcasm]Why not kill all the scientist in the commonwealth? It's not like they were saving humanity. I mean, if it doesn't save me personally it's not saving humanity.
Much better to have a one ruler military dictatorship. Nothing could ever go wrong with that, like getting a bad rulers. Just because their policy is to keep all the tech for themselves and keep humanity in the stone age - that's good right?
Or killing anyone who gets in the way of toasters.
Or Anarchy, which failed once already. Have another go at a system that is a proven failure and requires a charismatic leader. Not like the single point failure of a bad leader works.
And all three will use another thermonuclear bomb to blow up all the bad people, and a few innocent bystanders... and the innocent bystanders... how many of those are there? Kill 'em all and let the deity sort 'em out, right? Using nuclear weapons is the only way to make sure that humanity never uses nuclear weapons again.
{/sarcasm}

The Institute may have experimented on surface dwellers with the FEV virus, and I can't prove that they just experimented on raiders, but even so, they're the only future for humanity

Humanity was immoral before the war, why do you expect them not to experiment on the FEV virus or even Robobrains? Or dump toxic waste everywhere... it's not like the game has humanity being virtuous)

From what I recall, it kind of traps you on the rooftop if you've gotten to the point of being there with the button. So if you wanted to avoid it, you'd need to diverge before then, and generally not do the Nuclear Option mission at all.

Tbh go institute ending and destroy the other 2 factions and ignore the MM at concord. Just know all factions suck. Even the MM are incompetent above all else.

As others have said you can just do as much as possible then just bounce. Don't have to complete any questline. Just finish DLC and install some mods. Or a new playthrough.
