When you dismiss Piper or any companion, don't you have some option of where they should go?
I would just feel a lot better knowing she's taking care of her sister rather than ditching her sister over me.
You can dismiss your companions but you can never send them back to their original home if you asked them to stay at someplace else.
If you were really determined it might be possible using console commands or a holotape that lets you manage your companions.
You do have an option to choose where they go. However, those options are only settlements. If you don't choose one of the options and instead hit cancel, they will go back to the last place you were when you asked them to follow you. So in order to send Piper back to her home in Diamond City, you must never dismiss her to a settlement. If you dismiss her and choose one of the settlements, she will never return to her home in Diamond City again.
The same applies to all other companions as well. If you dismiss him to a settlement, Nick will never return to his office, Strong will never return to the tower, Cait will never return to the Combat Zone, and so on.
Which means the only ones you can send back to their original home once you move them are Codsworth, Dogmeat, Preston, and Longfellow as they start the game in a settlement. And I suppose Ada qualifies as well, since her default home is set to the Red Rocket station instead of the location you first get her as a companion (the site of the battle).
holotape? is there? i heard a mod uses that.
So i'll just repeat
I wish i had cancel so she can go back home to her little sis but i can't, bad luck for me to dismissing them to a settlement.
(If you don't want to use mods because they disable the ability to get achievements, there are mods that change that as well. Those I know do work.)
Edit: Also, unrelated. Yesterday when I was killing some raiders to help a settlement Piper said "Hello, Piper, Publick *Appearances*" which I thought was odd. Was there ever any explanation why it's called "Publick" or do we just read between the lines.
Edit 2: I just looked it up, apparently that was the name of the first newspaper in Boston in 1690.

There could also be one on the workshop for all we know.
