well that\s what Im asking, is there no quick way that doesn't involve menu navigating to actually un-equip current weapon? like in skyrim, you select 1 for example to equip sword, and press 1 again to un-equip it
No. There are mods that add something similiar, but they don't ways work right. (Some add an "unarmed" weapon you equip, buy you aren't actually considered unarmed. Others use a script to make an aid item to equip then unequip an item, but don't always work and something you are wielding an invisible knife, but it isn't actually there so you don't deal any damage).
Its just far easier to go into your pipboy and manually unequip your weapons when you want to be unarmed.
Christ, leave it to bethesda to screw something as simple as un-equipping action, it's not like they did it back in skyrim
They really didn't want you to fight totally unarmed in Fallout 4 (or Skyrim, for that matter). Even fighting with unarmed weapons (like the deathclaw gauntlet) doesn't receive much support, and of course you can't even do that in power armor.
(And don't even try to use the paralyzing punch ability of Iron Fist 5 while in power armor. There is no animation for in while in power armor, so you just stand there and do nothing. Which also means no more critical hits with unarmed combat in power armor as well. Though there are mods that fix it. And if you try to sneak attack with an unarmed weapon, it counts as a ranged attack so you get the smaller bonus from the Ninja perk.)
