how to play in 4k

im trying to enable 4k but it will only let me play on 1080p small screen how do i enable 4k settings for my 3090?

Actually… Well, you could try to get a 1080p mod by Nvidia. There is also a NV GeForce experience app - teak all settings to the max, also you may try to switch to a sugessted 720p mode, but enable a nvidia DSR (in any way). As well you can enable an 4xSLI mode emulation(works) and other tweaks in nvidiaprofileinspector, and enable “UseNVGodrays” in Fallout4.ini file, and set a custom res in Fallout4Prefs.ini file. But after all these you will find out that it actually runs only in 720p mode! By the way, I own 2 nwlinked 3090, and still can’t do anything to enable HW tessellation, and yet FO4, like, loads sys to a 100% - almost like quake 2 rtx (and actually no wonder). The game wasn't designed for anything above 1080p, but you should be able to run it fine on 1440p. Games are usually designed for what the average user has at the time of developement and 4k was only a dream for most users at the time. Hence why it was designed for 1080p.
There are mods on Nexus that claim to help you run it in 4k, but keep in mind what I said before.

Just set the resolution in the launcher. That should be all you need to do. If that doesn't work, you can manually set it in the ini file. Or, if you don't know how to do that, you could use Bethini[www.nexusmods.com].

There's no trick to getting Fallout 4 to run at 3840x2160.

Thousands of hours in 4k here with a 1080ti. As matt said, just change the resolution in the prefs ini. If the console text is too small, increase the size.

hawkeye, just try to switch to 720p(1280x720) and see if there ANY noticeable changes, like at all? And for better look get nvidiaprofileinspector, and tweak settings to SLI mode, after tweaking settings in geforce experience(it was NEWER 1080p even(only with NV mod, that calls "1080p")). Trying to get it working on Mac's screens, may be it meant somehow to work there.
