Who is Nate?

What would he actually do? Who would he side with? What kind of person is he?

I think he would rush the main quest line to find his son, and turn down helping everyone except for maybe Preston during When Freedom Calls.

What I'm not sure about, is what he would do after he discovers the fate of his son. Nor can I say for sure what factions he would end up siding with.

The point of Fallout 4 isn't to pretend to be Nate, but to pretend to be whatever character you wish to be, I get that. But what if Nate wasn't a just hollow shell?

Acceptance is generally one of the later stages of coping with loss, though.

You'd usually get in some enraged shouting at the heavens and hardcore unhappiness before accepting that he's gone, and there isn't a button for either one of those.

This really, especially after Sole Survivor finds out that supermutants eat babies when he visits Fraternal Post 115. It's pretty obvious: teddy bears, bottles, rattles toys ... found in supermutant meat bags. eww.
That and every faction SS meets is only helps SS so they can get at the institute and kill 'em all. Every settler says he might be a synth. Every Gunner and Raider wants to kill or rob him. Almost all supermutants want to kill or eat him, with the exception of Virgil and that Supermutant in Far Harbor.
