Quest Question
What happens if you clear a location but you weren't given a quest nor did you activate it? For example I explored the Weston water treatment plant and I didn't know there was a quest for it. I found out there was a quest after I cleared out the Plant and randomly found the settlement that gives the quest.

Do I lose the experience points for not following the steps of getting the quest first then clearing out the location of enemies?

When you get a new quest for an area you previously cleared it will respawn the enemies and you'll have to fight them all again. Should go faster as they are in exactly the same number and locations.

So yes I should be able to repopulate that location where there is a quest.

Strange... for some unknown reason the game is not respawning enemies. Is it a bug? Some locations says it is clear but I did it at the start of the game and I am passed 3 days into the game (according to save file). That same location hasn't respawned any enemies.

Heck even my settlement happiness is down but I cannot find the cause of it.

Make sure your defence is higher than your food+water and that you have enough beds.

Also if the settlement has TV's try removing them, apparently theirs a few bugs with them that happen on occasion.

Also make sure the beds aren't just a mattress or sleeping bag on the floor, they sometimes hate that.

As for your respawning issue, from a google search apparently there are lots of different answers

Some players say it takes only 3 days for them to see new enemies in a location they'd previously cleared, though the game files state that it is 7 days for outdoors, and 20 days for [Cleared] areas to reset.

You may simply need to go back to the location much later on and do some other quests first, or sleep for a few more days.

to fully eliminate attacks you must have 150+ defence to get max happines from defence you need to have it above that amount of settlers

It's been more than 20 days for [Cleared] areas. I'll try sleeping for a few days and hopefully it will reset.

Some of the settlements don't have TVs just beds, farm, and other important stuff. For the beds, does it need to be a good quality mattress like 4 post bed?

What is the safe number for defence over food+water?

Okay, I did what you said but still no luck. I slept for 6 days straight and still the [Cleared] area is still there.

Thats because it can be up to 20 days to respawn a cleared area.

Beds are probably the biggest single cause of settlement unhappiness. If you watch your settlers at bedtime, you'll notice that they almost always get in the bed from the LEFT side. Place your beds in such a way that settlers can walk around all 4 sides. Test the placement with your character - if you can do it, they can do it. Avoid using a free placement mod like Place Everywhere when it comes to beds. Let the game determine the best place to put them since a free placement mod will let you put a bed where the settler can't get to it.

Also, make sure your beds are not in the open. If a settler can't get to a bed or if it's in an unsheltered area, the game considers it non-existant and happiness drops. You can have 100 beds but if they're placed wrong, it's like having no beds at all.

Lastly, for you guys that like to create large, elaborate buildings like I do, I noticed that settlers don't like their beds to be located above the second floor. Try to create your bunkhouse at ground level or 2 stories high max. Anything higher and your settlers won't like it. If you want to verify this, just enter build mode and hover your cursor on a bed. if a settler is using it, the icon will be green. If he's not, it will be red. Put beds on the third floor and most if not all of them will be red and your happiness will drop as a result.

Maybe some of you guys have seen different results but in my own game, this is what I came across. I hope this helps someone.

I did just that and no luck with the [Cleared Area] status. It's still there.

Some areas do not repopulate. If the quest you are talking about is the one from Graygarden, it shouldn't actually require killing anything.

Also, even if "Cleared" Status is still listed, sometimes areas repopulate anyway.

I didn't get the quest from Graygarden, will the game list "Troubled Waters" quest in my Pip Boy and consider it completed once I talked to the Supervisor White?

In the quest "Troubled Waters" you don't actualy have to kill anything, but if you activated all the pumps at Weston Water Treatment, talking to Supervisor White may complete the quest. I can't be sure though.

Will the game consider I completed the quest even though I didn't receive the quest at all?
