Vault pieces sucks , especially the atrium part.
Some piece that are suppose to fit together don't snap with each other sometime.
Some of them need to be put in a certain order or they won't work.
You also got different part like bottom part and top part that won't snap together and the mid/corner wall....♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pain sometime. Don't get me started on the ceilling lol.
Just experiment and don't let those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pieces of ♥♥♥♥ pieces that i would love to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ burn to the ground get to you.....
I ultimately decided to ignore everything but the main area and just try to make a semi-functional 2-story vault.
sadly though you might wind up like moast of us and not build an actual vault more then once due to how wonky it is.
As for the building, you are best playing around with what fits where, before you build full on. Shame nobody put flat pack instructions in the DLC.
hopefully they will be smarter next game and reinstate the ''steward'' from hearthfire dlc and allow us to pay caps/mats and time and watch the settlement/vaults build themselves.
dont forget the conduit that is very well hidden aswell
