You also have the Option to use Nick Valentine. I think he can hack into Master Terminals. But I am not sure about that. I know Cait can unlock Master Locks, but it will take her several tries. You just have to keep telling her to try it.
Edit. Oh wait, you are on the Mechanist quest? Are you trying to by pass the fight and using the back way? If not, then as Steve pointed out, the Mechanist gives you the passcode to unlock the terminal which lets you take control of the Mechanist Lair.
And besides, you have to use a robot equipped with the device to open the doors. Which can have a mod installed on them to hack terminals. But I do not think they can hack Master terminals with that mod installed. Only up to expert level.
It was bad enough to build a robot body for Jezebel then talk to her and find out that she only wants to kill humans. So if I ever bother to do this again I will not do that.
I wasn't trying to avoid a fight, I just don't know how to get to the Machinist. My first time doing this quest line, which I figured soon enough that this was from a DLC but had never done it before. I thought following the path that the scan leads you would be the way to the Machinist, why else would the game make that a requirement to install and use. It leads to holo tapes. Forshadowing Fallout 76.
The closest I got to the quest marker was 16, whatever unit that number means, but I'm facing a wall at that point. Usually I'm at 50 or 60 unknown units away.
If the way following the Scans is the correct way to the Machinist then I'm just not seeing it. I run into dead ends and when I went back toward the entrance I found the hole in the wall which goes to the Master locked Terminal. Then read the Wiki as I was still at a dead end in trying to figure out this quest. As just being a lemming and following the quest marker only gets me to within 16 units or so of the quest target yet I could not find a way to go beyond that point. I was just trying to explore the whole place like I usually do, not be a lemming, but then you try that when you eventually find dead ends.
I'll look around more with my pip boy light on, which I don't normally do as I'm normally sneaking around not trying to be seen nor trying to look like a lighthouse to things trying to kill me. The last area I was in when I turned around was the jail area with 2 levels. The last eye bot that I killed was well before that and said that I was getting close. I guess I missed a turn somewhere.
Sorry for the long answer, just explaining my thinking while doing this dlc quest for the first time and being stumped on what to do to finish it. I'm not a completionist but its frustrating when I get stuck.
To get thru each door to reach the Mechanist, you need to equip a robot ( I use Ada, ) with the device which will allow you to open them. Just open each door which has the red device next to it you need to activate. You will eventually reach the last door which will start the quest to confront her. Go in there and it will automatically start when you are about half way in.
She will accuse you of all kinds of evil, tell her what ever you want, she can not be reasoned with that I was ever able to reach at least. Then back your way into the corner next to the last door you opened to enter her lair. She will send out a lot of robots to kill you. Defeat them and then she should come out and have a conversation with you.
I normally convince her to stand down and she will accept it. And then you will need to get the passcode from her, to take control of the workbench there. Which is done at the terminal with all the robots clicking away.
