Lets me have all the comfort of a big settlement, without having to deal with Settlers annoying me constantly by hanging out in my house, etc.
that said i do develop some more than others i have what you might call hubs in each territory. like Jamaica and drive in theater are pretty central in distinct areas. i like hangman's for accessing my resources in the city area and because it fun building tall in a confined space(build clipping mod though).
I also have the mods '' Sanctuary Underground Bunker '' and '' Vault 1024 '' at Sanctuary
( for some reason both entrance's are in the kitchen of the house you start out in ) and '' Personal Vault '' across the river from Sanctuary . The good thing about these places is no one ( except your follower if you have one ) comes in to steal your ''stuff '' .
This next bit is just going to be a massive rant about a settlement mod :P
Currently though, I'm using my personal Prydwen from Airship - Player Home and Settlement (It is a fully functional settlement with no defense needs, though it's necessary to have Wasteland Workshop for Garden Plots). It's mobile and can go to Far Harbor locations (I believe it goes to Nuka World as well). In the case that you have neither/only one there's a "No DLC" version. I, without a doubt, recommend it.

If you do get it, be sure to check out the very back of the Main deck and the Command Deck.
All L4 traders are in Starlight except for the Vault Tec Rep who, naturally, opens a store among his fellow ghouls at the Slog and Rylee who is sent to Vault 88.
The companions; Danse and Preston are sent to Far Harbor to swap stories with Old Longfellow. Hancock and Strong become the permanent residents of the Slog. Dogmeat and McCreedy — Sanctuary, guard duty (there are only the original MM refugees there, no random settlers). Nick and the girls — Starlight. Nick has his Agency there, the girls just have a good time. Ada, Codsworth and Jezebel — at the Mechanist Lair (I currently keep Ada as a heavily modified killer bot in Starlight, guarding outside, but that will change when I start hiring).
Deacon and X6-88 are dead.
Porter Cage is not hired yet but he will eventually be parked at one of the outposts.
I also want a recycler contraption. Life is too short to scrap things by dropping them, R, E and repeat on each item.
There's a later TARDIS version but it's a big maze and you still can't really build in it.
Then there's the Pip boy storage version. Has a workshop and you can make workbenches, but the ceiling is too low to build a recycler. That's too cheety, even for me tho. Baddies getting the better of you? Go to the Pip-Boy storage room, have a nice nap, drink water, fix your power armor, then return to the battle. Meanwhile, your companion is slumped over waiting for you and a stimpak.
