Any way to select the Mk type of turret?
I recall being able to cycle through them (seemingly at random) by just going through the defense menu until the type of turret I wanted to build would show up, but no matter how many times I go back and fourth through the menu, it still only builds a Mk1 turret.

It's been a pretty long time since I last played so I'm probably missing something or doing something wrong. I do have some mods installed, but none that should affect the settlement defenses (unofficial patch, atmospheric mods, etc.).

Were you perhaps using a mod at the time that added different turrets? It could also be the unofficial patch that "fixes" the random type turrets.

But at some point they patched it so that it now always uses the highest Mk available for the location. But in either case, the highest Mk available depends on the location.

No. I recall doing this shortly after the game was released late in 2015 so it could have been fixed in any of the patches or the unofficial.

So you're saying in low danger areas like Sanctuary I'll never have higher than Mk 1 turrets? That's incredibly disappointing because I recall storing them and cycling through the menu to get the highest (Mk VII?) available.

Maybe I can find a mod that allows me to choose the turret type.

That is correct; some lower-danger areas like Sanctuary do have limits on the turret Mk. All the patch changed was that it now always selects the highest Mk.

Even when you could cycle it randomly, the maximum was still restricted by the limit for the area, so you might be remembering cycling it in another location.

That's very possible. It was a few years ago since I last played so I was probably just remembering a different location. Thanks for the information.
