player races
i know FO5 is likely over a decade away, seeing as Starfield is probably top priority now and then they'll be doing TES6 next.

but i think what would have enhanced the game is if it was more like TES in the sense that you can choose your race for your main character.

i mean, i guess it wouldn't work with the classic FO setup of you being a vault dweller, but maybe they could make you a wastelander in the next game, like someone who was born into this world and knows nothing from before the war.
i guess fo1 you're a vault dweller who was born in a vault.
fo2, you are a wastelander who was born in a village that sprung up around amvault and had access to vault technology
fo3, you are born in the vault , only seeing the outside world for the first time.
fo4 is the first one where you play as someone who actually lived before the war.

i digressed.

my suggestion for the next fallout would be like how in tes, it lets you pick nord, redguard, bretin, khajiit, argonian etc. .

in FO5 let you pick at character creation to be human, ghoul, super mutan, synth, and then let you pick a background, like raider, nomad, farmer, lab tech etc. .
and then have an alternate start location depending on your race
and have npcs react to you differently depending on your race, like if you're a super mutant, people react with fear and mistrust.
if you're a ghoul, people react with hatred, disgust and bigotry.
and then each race could have it's own traits, like the ghoul doesn't get attacked on sight by ferals.
the super mutant doesn't get attacked on sight by other super mutants.
a synth can pass for a human but their cover can be blown and then certain humans might start attacking on sight if they find out you're a synth.

morrowind sort of did this. if you play as a khajiit or a dunmer, people react to you differently

I've suggested in past discussions that they could have a variation more like the vampire and werewolf options of Skryim, where you start as a regular human, but can change through choices you make in-game. Do you stay a"pure" human by relying on chems, embrace the radiation to become a ghoul, dip into FEV to turn into a mutant, or modify yourself into a cyborg?

All different ways for someone to try to survive in the wasteland.

i did see a mod that lets you transfer your mind into a robot body and it has new mechanics, not just visual, like you now have to use the robot repair kits from automatron instead of stimpaks to heal. but of course, that's player made mod.

here's hoping they do it in the core game for the next one.

I want to play as a Zetan.

See, all this would have been what I'd wanted out of an online mmo for Fallout. Faction based play and appearances, and REASONS for having those things.

I remember there where discussions when Obsidian made FO:NV about allowing you to be a ghoul or a super mutant that got nixed by Bethesda so I don't think they are to open races in Fallout games. This is one thing that has bothered me about Starfield, I am hoping it is just a big reveal they are holding out on. Everything about the game I have heard indicates you will just be playing as a human being, which would really be a waste as a space scifi game like that should have a ton of different ways to play. I will have hope until it is released, the information released so far has me wondering though.

No ghouls, because they randomly go feral, not under player control. (Unless you keep perma-death as an option for ghoul chars., when they go feral. End Game.)

some ghouls are hundreds of years old and still never went feral. the PC could just have plot armor to not go feral. or they could save that for the ending , after you beat the game, but then again, you wouldn't get to keep playing and that's not how anyone wants a fallout game to end

Yeah, you just need to be lucky enough to be one of the stable ghouls, and there are loads more of them than people who survived being frozen in a vault, so it's not like it's a stretch for a Fallout protagonist.

Funnily enough, one of the potential endings for Fallout 1 was getting dipped in FEV to become a super mutant, though obviously that's not what they went for as canon.

This discussion reminds me of the "Dynamic Ghoulification" mod:

Right on. It would be nice to play with other races apart from human.

Each race should also have default SPECIAL stats that you couldn't change, when creating the character.

♥♥♥♥ like crazy strength for the super mutants but close to zero charisma etc.

You'd have to raise the stats while playing the game, then (with perks, quests etc).

I wouldn't want to play any race but human. Just like I never play a Reptile or Cat person in Skyrim. My char will not have a tail. :P

So basically, you want to get it on with other species. The BOS doctor asked you this and you lied to him.

It's really more that the races as seen in Fallout 4 are not an ordinary human, since both ghouls and super mutants are both still genetically human (super mutants retain their full human DNA with some structural changes, while ghouls have no genetic change at all).

I'm quite the opposite; I love to play all sorts of different characters, especially all the weird and wonderful different choices of the Elder Scrolls.

Though in Fallout, most of the races are essentially humans anyway.

i always play as a sexy female human who likes to get it on with other female humans. all the males get friend zoned. I just thought it would be cool to have player races to have mkre character creation options and make it "rhyme" more with elder scrolls
