Best Mod to kill Garvey?
Garvey is so absurdly written (like all the faction leaders, really). Sole Survivor saves his lives and the lives of the settlers, kills a death claw, builds beds, provides water, plants crops, builds defenses, and even saves a settlement because Garvey asked him to. Mind you, the two settlers at Ten Pines should have just moved into sanctuary.
Then Sole Survivor asks for help with the schematics for the Signal Interceptor so he could find those who murdered his wife and bring his son to safety.
Garvey says no because there's someone who needs their murdered daughter's locket back and it's held by a company of supermutants.
I get it's a game, but this is really bad writing. Garvey is written so that the MM and his ego are far more important than any settler, including Sole Survivor.
So I decided, Garvey must die. Pretty much need a mod for that, I've been reading about this and it seems a simple console command doesn't remove his essential status.
What's the best "kill Garvey" mod? I did it with O&R + Depravity once, but I really don't like murdering the Enclave; they're just nice unmutated people and a little less wicked, imho, than the radiated people of the commonwealth.

It just doesn't seem right you can murder every other faction except the MM. That's nuts.

He's unkillable for the same reason Yes Man is in NV, you need a default way to complete the game in any case. Killing essential characters is 100% the best way to screw up your game

And there's nothing about ego, what have you been smoking...

It's about Garvey's ego: he's a narcissist and psychopath
Garvey doesn't give a poop about Sole Survivor or the other MM who fell for his con game that SS finds dead all over the commonwealth. It's a nice gambit, tho. What about the "settlers". If he cared about the settlers at Ten Pines he would have sent SS to tell them to move to Sanctuary Hills, the practical solution to their problem.
If Garvey's motivation is not the settlers, if he presents himself, the last member of a dead organization as being with the Minutemen, then his motivation seems to be not for settlers, but for his own ego.

I get that it's a game mechanic, but (1) a better mechanic would be if the SS kills off two factions, the last faction is essential (2) even better would be to allow SS to kill all three Commonwealth factions, and build his own dang Signal Interceptor if maxed out science perks (3) Even better would be option 2 plus allow SS to kill off/change each of the factions. "LOOK AT ME! I'm the Father/General/Elder/Toaster fan now!"

How come? If you finished the quest already then the character is no longer needed anymore. Don't see how that can be an issue.

For example, I just had to do that with Edward because he attacked me after Lorenzo's quest when I went to Cabot House (and I sided with Jack). Claimed the entire thing as my own with the SetOwnership command, too, after murdering him, thanks to that betrayal.

Still pissed Nuka-World did not make him able to be killed. Also it would have been cool if Fritsch could build the interception device and destroy the Institute with the Raiders.

the best way to kill unkillable NPC's is actually with a simple INI setting.

documents \ my games \ fallout 4 \ fallout4.ini:
[Gameplay] bEssentialTakeNoDamage=0

and when you want to make npc's essential again, change that zero to a one.

Lol. Funny story. He should help you build the teleportation device by telling you to speak with Sturges. He has always did that for my char. All 3 factions will. Why you had a issue with him , you did not make clear in your post.

what you are describing isn't the character being bad.

It's the program and code being sloppy, yes. but it's not 'Garvey is a bad person because he has a mission for you."

It's implemented in such a way that it is obviously frustrating.

He is essential, so unless you have already completed anything that ever involves him - such as meeting with him to destroy a faction, or create a device, etc, he should be left alone console and all. He's part of the game's programming, and should be there - period - that's just literally how it works.

Other characters are not essential after a certain point, some of them can be put down, others not so much. But your beef with him is not his character, but how the code deals with multiple overlapping and sometimes conflicting mission requests. That's a bethesda feature, not a thing that's somehow wrong about the character.

The other two factions are just using you to get into the institute so they can murder everyone in the Institute. I mean, sure that's fun, but wicked is rarely my play style, tho I think a Castle Windsor where you're a nazi fighting your way to Churchill would be pretty funny.
Wait... did I just type that out loud?

The only problem with messing with ini files is that I'll forget what file I changed and what I changed. I know I should get a bigger brain but when I go to the brain store they keep saying I don't use the neurons I already have.

...but then you find out it's actually just a synth double of Churchill, while the real one is safe and well.

Incapacitate Garvey then shoot till he dies, I think it works with everyone, untested.
Morally, none of the quests are principal to the player char., you just metagame go through it to enjoy the play.

I simply put a copy of said file in a folder on the desktop, .txt with the path and I am done.

Why kill him?

Simply build a stronghold with a teleportation mat and no doors at Sanctuary and you'll be able to avoid him all the time.

If you play at survival, you will need a door, but if it's an electric one, you can lock him out quit easily. After that just make sure you won't encounter him.

Sooner or later you're able to set up shop at some many spots, you don't even have to be in Sanctuary anymore.
And when you don't visit that place, you won't encounter him either.

Problem solved.

Thorin :)
