mod load order question (fall UI and MCM)
i assume FallUI is the fallout version of SkyUI.

i've been reluctant to try this mod because it looks complicated. there are like. .8 different mods to download. . (hud, workbench, sleep and wait, confirm boxes, item sorter, inventory)

and they all require mod comfiguration menu (MCM)

i'm asking where these things should be in the load order.
should they be near the top? near the bottom?

does MCM have to be below all the mods so they load in first and then MCM can open the config menu?

does the inventory mod have to be above the item sorter?

I'm using Mod organizer 2 and it "supposedly" has LOOT inside it to fix the load order but i try to do it and it doesn't seem to do anything. it didn't reorganize my mods at all.

the mod organizer had the mods listed by priority but when i went in the game, and clicked "mods" from the main menu and looked at the load order, they were set up differently and i had to move them all around manually myself.

I did it from within the game.

I have the DLC's first of course.
then the unofficial patch,
then AWKCR.

I saw some info on the net saying it should go like this

"Recommended to be at top of Load Order

New Quests*****(See Below), Landmasses, Factions

Bug Fixes, Unofficial Patches

Settlement Building Mods (Things that add to your menu not including sorting mods)

Game play Changes and Tweaks

New Companion mods

Radio mods

Visual, texture, Atmospheric improvements

Lighting

Settlements Changes and tweaks

Sorting and menu changes

Character model replacers

Retexture or alter an existing companion

Pipboys and Map mods

New weapons, armour, clothing ect

Craft your own (Anything you can craft in chemistry satation)

Weapon and Armor Modifications"

the thing is that i don't know how to categorize FallUI.
is it "sorting and menu changes"?
is it "pipboy and map mods"?
"gameplay changes and tweaks"?

i use vortex and it handles the load order automatically with loot. i didn't think MO2 had loot built-in like vortex does. i have my modlist (in order in case i manually mod it) on my web site if you want to see how i sorted them

My complete active mod list:
https://reedmann.com/aaron/games/fallout4/info/modlist.htm

you do want to load in MCM first (above fallUI). anytime a mod says it requires another mod, you load the requirement first so that it's running before you load in the mod that needs it.

maybe you can try installing loot manually to verify that you have it

the last time i played this years ago, i used vortex, but all the most recent guides nowadays say to use mod organizer 2. so that's what i used this time.
it "claims" to have LOOT built in and i press the button from within and it says "sorting your mods" but then i look and the mods are still in the same order as before.

it's possible that maybe it didn't feel the need to change it because i already did a good job of sorting them myself.

the question here is about fallUI. i did not install it yet. i'm asking, if i do decide to install it, where should i put it it the load order and does it even matter?

i'm looking at it and i probably don't "need" it. most of the mod just looks to be visual changes to the inventory and the map screen

yea, i gave up the first 2 times i tried to use fallUI because i couldn't get it working right. it's a bit complicated. i've finally gotten it sorted now, the third time trying. through vortex. on my manual sort order i actually put it pretty low down. my manual sort order looks like this:

-------------------------------------------------
01 PRE-LOAD SOFTWARE (manual installation)
02 PERFORMANCE PLUG-INS (manual installation recommended)
03 START-UP MODS - SYSTEM (mod manager installation) - load before starting new
04 START-UP MODS - PLAYER (mod manager installation) - load before starting new game
05 WORKSHOP MODS (mod manager installation) - load after exited vault 111
06 FACTION AND AI OVERHAULS (mod manager installation) - load after exited vault 111
07 NEW LANDMASSES, NEW SETTLEMENTS, NEW FACTIONS, WORLD EDITS
08 VANILLA QUEST MODS
09 WORKSHOP MENU ITEMS
10 WORKSHOP OVERHAULS
11 GAME-PLAY CHANGES
12 NPC AND COMPANION CHANGES, NEW COMPANIONS
13 RADIO AND AUDIO
14 VISUAL + TEXTURE + ATMOSPHERE
15 LIGHTING AND WATER CHANGES
16 VANILLA SETTLEMENT CHANGES
17 SORTING MODS
18 HUD AND DEF_UI * FallUI here * <------
19 CHARACTER MODEL REPLACERS, ENHANCERS
20 PIP-BOY AND MAP MODS
21 NEW WEAPONS, ARMOR, CLOTHING, GEAR
22 NEW VEHICLES
23 CRAFT YOUR OWN
24 NEW QUESTS
25 WEAPON AND ARMOR MODIFICATIONS
26 SCRAPPING, PREVIS, PRECOMBINES
27 FRAMEWORK BOTTOM

but it's mostly just graphical stuff so the sort order of it really shouldn't matter a lot.

EDIT:

when i check the plugins page of vortex nothing's even listed for fall UI and i have all this running

i have hud plus plus and the mod configuration manager.

what's confusing is that some of the fallUI mods have other requirements first and i tend to stay away from mods that rely on other mods, because then it ends up stacking like a house of cards. . .

i wasn't sure the the fallUI hud and hud plus plus would play well together.
i had another map mod that was "supposed" to show a full color satellite map of the game world and mark all the locations of magazines and stuff but it wouldn't show up in color, and the it crashed the game when i read a note that added a new map marker. . .because apparently, there was some stuff in the ini files i was supposed to change and the instructions sais to change it in the falloutconifg ini, and i tried that and the game kept crashing on startup until i undid the changes but then i saw a YT video said to change it in the fallout ini and i was asking for clarification and got no response so i removed that mod.

and then it can cause problems when you remove mods. like once a mod is in place, i tend to try to leave it in place because trying to remove it can cause more problems so i try nt to install mods that might cause problems.

and then i see lots of highly endorsed mods on the nexus and then i look at the descriptions and they say stuff like "this mod is unfinished" or "this is the alpha build" and i'm scratching my head wondering why they are at the top of the list for most endorsements. . .

yea don't remove mods unless you're planning to start a new game.

also, you don't have to install everything fallUI. like you can just install the one called inventory if you want. and skip the ones called sleep and wait and the one called map. but i tried to grab them all because i want the whole GUI redone. you'd like the sleep and wait one, it's a really nice popup window that diplays details about what time and date it will be when you wake up.

as for prerequisites, it's not that scary. just make sure you have the pre-req. installed and deployed before the one that needs it. and MO2 probably has it's own built-in sorting mechanism whether it uses LOOT or not. it's like a lot of the performance plugins i use, they require F4SE or MCM. it's ok, i just have those things installed before trying to install something which uses it.

the only problem i'm having with my FallUI right now is the weapons icons aren't showing up like they are displayed on the screenshots. but the FallUI as a whole looks really nice and i'm glad to be using it. it's gonna take some getting used to though, it looks so different.

as for HUD PLUS PLUS, i had that installed for another mod that required it, not even to do with FallUI. i don't think you need it. i might not even need it anymore, i removed that HUD i was using, it showed my hunger and everything but it wasn't accurately reporting my conditions so i terminated it. :)
