Dude i created this thread because of you ;) It's just.. i don't get it. That enthusiasm, that joy hehe i'm jealous you know.

I never modded my game before, i'm slowly embracing modding, just a few mods i have atm.. even now i don't feel good.

I'm a purist at heart i guess.. it feels like cheating ;) but still i overcame that feeling recently and used some mods. Created some of them myself.

You know CPU overclocking community? those guys are like crazy.. they overclock and overclock cpus to the limits.. sometime they go beyond and explode those chips ;P But the point.. they don't actually use them..

I want to understand, i can't sleep at night.. tell me your motivation, give me the wisdom.. I need to know this ;)

Depends on your definition of modding.

I would agree that making mods is a lot more rewarding than playing the game.

Searching for and installing mods is the epitome of boring.

so, i started out modding a couple years ago, just wanting to cheat :D

then i realized it disabled achievements, never thought about a mod for that, stopped modding to get the achievements and was excited to get back to modding again once i got them. i've been subscribed to the forum here for more than a year, almost 2 years now probably, learning, and the mods i used to use were crap lol

i approach modding right now like a performance game. i want it to run better, but i want to experience more as well. did you know some mods are like DLC? they add whole new areas to the game. like WillieSea's mod. you could play his base. :D

i wanted to make the game run better at first, when i got my achievements and came back to modding. so i started with the buffout 4 and F4SE and all that. game runs better now i want to push it to the limits and see if it will run this big pile. you know i added like 20 GB of data to my data folder just with 300 mods, last time i checked.

i wanted to learn more Zes that's all. i pushed to 300 because i was believing the mod limit was 256. well it isn't. it's more like 4,351 if you know what you're doing. :D

i honestly don't know if i can go more than 300. i scoured the nexus, every category for top rated mods, i don't think there's anything else on there that i want. :p

so i'm trying to test now. i have to spend some weeks seeing if it all works. who knows what kind of bugs i might come across.

but at least now i know how to get past the 256 mod limit. it's quite simple with Vortex. you just flag the plugins that you can as ESL. that's how i got to 300. time to do a play-through and see how it goes...

I have been playing since release, 3 years on xbox, not that long here, haha :)

but modding has improved my experience completely, weapon mods/ overhauls/ etc

I'm still not convinced ;) This is your lifestory in print hehe but it doesn't really tell why you like modding more than playing..

I mod my game when i have to. To fix somethig that is really bothering me.

Ryhs: Out with it.. What's your game?

https://reedmann.com/aaron/games/fallout4/info/modlist.htm

my active mod list ^

i now update it quickly from my master list using a PHP script so it will be easy to keep it updated. i used to have to spend hours adding mods to the list. now it's an instant process.

should have posted it though, you can see what kind of mods i'm using. just scan over the category names.

and vortex is making light work of all of this. so simple. you don't even have to WYRE BASH. you don't even have to use xEdit. you can ESL flag your plugins right through vortex. if you happen to max out the 255 limit (1 slot is used for all the ES'Ls), then you do a merged patch through WYRE. but i haven't gotten to that stage yet. my vortex tells me i have only about 150 of the 255 limit. i have ESL flagged all that i can.

Oh i missed you between the lines :) I remember you, you are a mod maker. An old programmer from my era. You made mods for Oblivion and/or Morrowind?

What do you think, does it feel like developing a game? Your definition of modding is actually creating content for the game.

May i say, modding is like low budget making a game? engine is ready, it is up and running and you are making your heart's content. If that much is true, then you actually have a wish to develop a game deep down in you?

Is that how you feel while modding?

this is it right here for me. to improve the experience. i played 3 or 4 whole play-throughs in the vanilla game. little to no mods. i know how bethesda intended the game to play. now i want to see what the mods can do.

I had no distinction in my mind while asking, but i realized there are two type of modders actually. I can relate the mod makers, still not exactly understood the mod users.. as to why they actually spend more time on modding than their playtime.

But i started see some similarities, mod makers are creating something with their programming knowledge etc, it's not everyones cup of tea.. of course. But mod users feel like in the same way to some extend.. they want to create something too.. within their passion and time. So i can relate them too..

But there is this third type of modders as well, like me.. which might be the reason why i confuse.. I'm modding just when I have to, I don't fix things unless they are broken :P I don't change them if i can stand them.. maybe because i'm already a programmer and already am doing programming all day and I'm fed up with it :P

It can be a double edged sword . modding is rewarding when done right , and a f*****n nightmare when you install the '' wrong '' mod that ends up with an reinstall the game scenario .

i can relate to this. it's why i stopped trying to program games and just got happy with playing them. i barely code for the web anymore these days either and i was a big web programmer there for awhile.

when i first tried to use vortex, Zes, i tried, and failed, for 5 days to get my game running right on it. so i gave up on vortex because i just wanted to play my game in less than 5 more days and i knew i could manually setup those mods in less than a day and just be playing it.

so i operate from a position of impatience sometimes :D

but this time feels different. vortex is working right. and i dunno, maybe that's where the excitement comes from. the mods are all there when i deploy them. when i load a game they all seem to be there, working. so we'll see. i'm optimistic right now though :D

EDIT:

just went and checked again, it's 32.9 GB of data that i have added in mods to my data folder. weeeeeeee

It's cool to discover awesome mods but it's still more enjoyable to play. I do find myself willing to dedicate hours to combing over a list just to get it right so that I can get to the sweet dopamine release of playing it though.
