Basicly the spanish audio files would have to be used by the English dialogue quests so it would display english text while playing the audio in Spanish.

I have not seen a mod for this and I am not sure of a way to go about it.

One possibility might be if there was a way to make a second Spanish install and copy just the audio files over to the English install or change the language to Spanish and copy the files somewhere then change back to English and copy them back.

if they use the same names for the dialogue lines this would make it play Spanish audio while displaying the English text.

The procedure is right but not enough, but I believe that something needs to be changed at level of .ini files.

Old discussion, the final part is the solution:

"Fallout 4 english with Italian subtitles, voices disappear!!
I downloaded the .ba2 files in english
- saved them
- put the game back in Italian by replacing the italian .ba2 files with those in english
- renaming them voices_it.ba2
but in game voices disappear, I also tried to delete .ini files but nothing, it appears that steam does not recognize the renamed files. By reapplying "italian" files, voices of the characters return.

Nothing, I have been trying that method for two days, renamed "Fallout 4 - Voices.ba2" in "Fallout 4 - Voices_it.ba2" doesn't work in any way. I also tried to add without renaming by changing the "SResourceArchiveList = Fallout4 - Voices.ba2" but it not work.
It worked fine with FNV, I played in english with subtitles ita changing the famous group of strings and renaming it, but it doesn't work here. It works only in English or only in Italian..
I tried with all mods uninstalled, also deleting the .ini files, (incurring in the useless download of 2.14 GB..).
Also a message appears in Vortex: "Due to addities in the game engine, some loose file will not get loaded unless we change the file time on the vanilla BSA / Ba2 files. There is no drawback to doing this".

The procedure was right, the pref.ini files must be deleted in documents and in the game folder (called Fallout4), if you don't delete the speech it stops in game. In setting of .ini file, language must be the same as the subtitles, while the .ba2 files must be the original in english, renamed with the suffix of the new chosen language.
Check in [Archive] that voices.ba2 corresponds with the suffix of the subtitle language."

The procedure is right but not enough, but I believe that something needs to be changed at level of .ini files.

If they use different names for the languages then there would more involved at the very least renaming the audio files to match the English names the English dialogue quests are pointing at for the audio if they are not the same.

When the dialogue quests are created the audio is saved using a name that points the quest to that file. The procedure might require extracting the Spanish audio files and renaming each to match the name of their English version so the quest can find the audio file to play.

Might even need to do the same with the lipsync files so the face animations match when speaking.

Exactly, the right procedure is described, I perfectly changed the subtitles in Italian and spoken in English.

That sounds like a cool way to be exposed to different languages, how labor intensive was it to do that?

I am not sure how intensive it will be the one doing it would have to look at the names of the English audio files and rename the extracted Spanish language audio files to match the correct ones. So it will depend on the number of files needing renamed.

I have heard a lot of people who attribute learning different languages to reading the subtitles in one language while the movie actors spoke another so it could be one way to learn a new language provided the translation was correct. I have seen some dialogue leave out words from the subtitle that the npc spoke.

The procedure allowed me to have audio in English and subtitles in Italian, but I read that wants the audio in Spanish and the subtitles in English?
it is a test procedure, I take no responsibility.
- Download audio files Spanish by setting the game to Spanish and making a backup of the files
- Put the game back in English by replacing the English .ba2 files with those in Spanish
- renaming them voices_en.ba2
Then you need to edit the .ini files -----> the pref.ini files must be deleted in documents and in the game folder (called Fallout4) if you don't delete the speech it stops in game.
In setting of .ini file, language must be the same as the subtitles, while the .ba2 files must be the original in spanish, renamed with the suffix of the new chosen language (in this case it should be english).
