Fallout 4 Advanced Animation Framework doesn't want to work.

So after installing F4SE i decided to get Advanced Animation Framework and once i got it, it didn't show signs of existing, for one. I know there's a button or item to use it in-game but I can't find it and nobody talks about HOW to use the mod itself. I've looked everywhere and there isn't any information on how to use the mod. I may just be blind and there's more information in the mod description, but i'm unable to figure this out.

Update: after reinstalling everything AAF related and figuring out how to use it, you'll never guess what happened. it STILL won't work! The closest thing to it working is getting an error message saying my clean save is CORRUPT somehow.

Update 2: it WORKS finally! i installed F4SE wrong like an idiot and just now discovered it. Thanks for trying to help, if you tried to help me.

its just bad timing on your part, fallout just had an update, and even though f4se has been updated, a lot of the mods that require f4se havent been updated to the new version of f4se.

Oh i probably should have added, AAF_setting.xml is a blank document for me. I click on it and it brings me to Internet Explorer (yuck) and it just shows a blank white site.

AFF is just a framework (advanced animation framework). It doesn't do anything by itself. You'll need other mods to get it to work, like themes or mods like atomic lust. Other than that, you can see that it is working every time you load into the game, as a script will appear on the left side of the screen. That will tell you everything that it is loading. Once you have another mod that uses the aaf, the "home" key will bring up a menu for options.

And as stated, the game's exe just got updated, so every mod that relies on f4se will need to be updated as well.

i've done every single troubleshooting step and nothing works still. No popup saying it works, but sometimes it says the save is "corrupt"

I can't quite remember what I did to get it to work, 2019 me wasn't too good at describing anything but my guess is I reinstalled F4SE. It's been months since I last played the game, so the details are a bit foggy, but from what I remember I had an old version I think or I wasn't opening the game from the script extender.

have had a similar issue with aaf since i installed on the current fo4 playthrough: during scenarios with mods, all keys on the keyboard are disabled except the "`" tilde key, and the only camera (and/or player) movement is up n down n rotating the camera view from a fixed point. the ONLY time this happens is with aaf. just got a new laptop n my next playthrough i'm going to try 'fourplay' again instead coz this aaf is just one huge cluster

Why do people post problems with mods on steam?
If you have a problem with a mod then wouldnt it make more sense to ask questions and report issues on the website you got the mod from?
It is quite likly the developer is there and many other smarter people who are able to answer mod issues quite quickly.
Dont waste peoples time with your mod issues in steam go ask in the correct forum.

You can get banned for stuff like that you know.
