LOD bug... still? really?
so i was clearing out Corvega on a new game when this happened...

no mods of any kind. my PC can certainly handle it. in fact, i used to consistently get 72 fps (half my monitor's framerate - i'm okay with that for this game, i don't need 144 fps here) on ultra with everything maxed out, yet i was consistently below 50 when i took these pictures...

specs:
i7-4790K Haswell Refresh (Devil's Canyon) 4.0GHz
GTX 1080
32GB RAM

i was not overheating. my GPU was only at ~40*C (which is actually quite lower than usual, it used to run at 50-60*C). my GPU was only running at 50% (which, again, is quite lower than usual for this game). and the game is installed on an SSD.

this is honestly one of my favorite games. it's disappointing to see such little support from Bethesda for it. i shouldn't have to download mods to "fix it" by replacing old bugs with new ones, as well as completely ruining the experience of earning achievements. i was honestly okay with ignoring these kinds of issues for the first couple of years... but now??? really??

Fallout 76 is also riddled with issues (however, i still think it's a good game and that's not the point of this thread)... i just wish Bethesda wouldn't spread themselves so thin, so they could actually realize the full potential of their own products...

That's one glaring problem with your game. You should have mods, because mods can fix such things, among countless other awesome stuff. Bethesda keep adding more and more grossly overpriced paymods to Creation Club but they don't care about fixing Fallout 4, so it's up to modders to clean up the mess BGS left. And they are doing a brilliant job of it

i've tried that... and from my experience, mods, and even the script extender alone, cause many more bugs than just running the game vanilla... and i want to earn achievements for my playthroughs.

Depends on the mods you use and how you install them and if your load order is right. I just played 100+ hours in a highly modded playethrough and I can tell you the amount of bugs and glitches was far, far lower than in my vanilla playthroughs. Such as the LOD bug, can be pretty gross in vanilla but mods fix it so it was nonexistent.

I completely agree with you that it should not be necessary to use mods to fix bugs and oversights since it should be Bethesda's responsibility to fix them, but unfortunately this is the reality of the situation.

There is a mod that enables achievements in a modded game.

i'm trying to play the game, not spend several days researching what mods to use and what load order is "best." and again, from my experience, mods have done very little to fix anything. i've played the vanilla game for over 3 days on a single save without experiencing bugs before, as well. which is why it's so irritating to see them pop up only after a couple of hours.

back to the point of the thread, i figured "new day, new mission, no problem." so i go to kill Sully at Thicket Excavations when this happened again:

this time it's not really cosmetic, but actually quite game breaking seeing as how i clip through the ground and can't see where i'm getting shot from.

Just savegame, quit and reload will usually fix the missing textures.

this did work. it's just going to be irritating to have to do this every time.

i'm currently verifying integrity as well. hopefully this helps.
