Where can I hide things?
Silly question, but I know settlers can take things from containers in your settlement -- is there any place I can hide things from them? Stuff I am trying to keep for myself but don't want to carry with me all the time.

If this were Skyrim I'd just stash it in the chest at the foot of my bed, but this is the Commonwealth and people here tend to run off with stuff if you leave it unattended…

You can buy the home plate at DC and store your things there, since its a player only house, your items will be safe there :cozyfallout4:

Settlers only take guns if they have ammo for it or if there is ammo in the same container as the guns.

A player home will be nice, but right now I'm still working out of my old home in Sanctuary and I don't want to come back to find some settlers sleeping in my bed, sitting in my chair and eating my porridge -- or stealing all my weapons.

you must only be a hr or so into the game. the stuff you have now is allmost worthless. just go to DC and get the house there, only only like 3k caps and you can build a crate and shove everything you want in it

The red rocket station, just outside sanctuary seems to be a pretty good place to make your own house too (without any settler on it)

If you live in Sanctuary put EVERYTHING you don't want stolen into the storm cellar behind the one house that has the storm cellar. You are the ONLY person who can go there. Problem solved.

just store any special weapons in a settlement with no settlers, you an just drop by and get them when you want. Ammo you can just carry around unless in survival mode. Normal weapons you can just search settlers once in a while to make sure they havent' picked up stuff they shouldn't have.

I've always thrown everything into the workbench, and never had any issues with settlers taking my stuff. I have had random junk spawn in containers I placed in my settlements, though.

Yeah, Red Rocket and Hangman's alley are the traditional player homes. Link them but don;t put any settlers there.

Alternately you can just build a crate in the middle of a slab in Sanctuary and surround it with walls. You need to move the walls to get to it but I remember that being reasonably safe.

With over a thousand hours in the game, I can report that even stuff stored in Home Plate is NOT safe. All my power armor crap was stolen from my chests.

I actually build a switch-door secured strong room in any settlement. It needs to be located somewhat away of any place that a settler can appear in (like defintely not under a guard post as I once discovered a settler appearing inside the room when I opened it) but so far no settler has been able to get to the stuff inside.

And since I have big piles of weapons in all my settlements (to give the new settlers good guns instead of their usual pipes) they are all safe and secure from anyone getting to it. And settlers are not the biggest problem. Merchants also tend to grab guns out of crates when they are not locked away and unlike with settlers, you wont get them back easily.

And they do that with power armor too ... I might never be useing power armor myself but that does not mean that I allow someone else to take them.
download elianora's home mods and voila
