Why is it called 'Game of the Year' edition? It wasn't Game of the Year.
Witcher 3 was GOTY 2015. I'm confused.

Every Bethesda games are game of the years in their hearts. And you are not allowed to deny it.

The game received a game of the year award from the 19th ceremony of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences—also known as D.I.C.E.—among numerous nominations for the award from The Game Awards, The Daily Telegraph, PC Gamer, IGN and more

Sure it was, and a handful of other games.

That Depends on which Place you look at, There are like 50 Differnt people that give out GOTY Version, thus there are like 50 Games at times that are 'GOTY' One place gave W3 GOTY, One place gave FO4 GOTY, And considering FO4 is a best seller and did WAY better then W3 which has been proven to be over-rated. Yeah I Can see why you be confused.

however I Long ago stop caring about GOTY or Game Journalist/Critics and such biased as ♥♥♥♥.

Years ago Game of The Year awards meant something, titles actually had to be significantly better than their peers completely seperating their accomplishments beyond something that no other game that year was able to do and did so very well.

Half-Life 2 in 2004

God of War in 2005 (And 2018)

Gears of War in 2006

Bioshock in 2007

Arkham Asylum in 2009

Mass Effect in 2010

Oblivion in 2011

Just a handful of games that were outstanding for their time, however, the key difference here is that each game, while it may seem like only "one" award was available, it was offered from multiple sources which include, and is not limited to:

Destructoid
D.I.C.E (which Fallout 4 won in 2015)
IGN
Eurogamer
The Game Awards
Game Informer
GDC
Gamespot
Gamesradar
Giant Bomb
Golden Joystick Awards

With about 15 - 20 other game of the year award sources that choose candidates.
And because of that, a game can win "multiple" game of the year awards.

If we take that into consideration, then Witcher 3 won around "15" Game of The Year awards, while Fallout 4 won 2...but it still won.

"The" Game of The Year is still up to subjection, as my personal pick is still Metal Gear Solid V.

Now a days a game, be it nominated for Game of The Year is the opinion of one journalist that represents a website or company, or the company itself that thinks it deserves it.

Caviates for what determines if a game is the best that year is better determined yourself, so if you think Witcher 3 won Game of The Year in 2015 that's all fine and dandy but there were multiple "winners" instead of just one.

GOTY award was something literally anyone could give. I could make a magazine that had a total of 5 readers and give Fallout 76 the GOTY award, and it would somehow count, and they'd use it to make a GOTY edition.

So basically it's a meaningless title.

The value of any particular GOTY award depends on the prestige of whoever is awarding it. If a particular source is considered to be a good authority, its judgements on who it selects as its GOTY have value due to that prestige.

It's basically the same as seeing anyone's "Top 10" list; the top ten movies as ranked by famous and respected film critic Ernest McFilmwatcher are likely to represent better quality than those chosen by random guy Joe. But, if you've previously hated everything Ernest McFilmwatcher chooses, you probably don't hold his rating in much regard, and will consider Joe's picks more valuable if he has previously given high rankings to movies you enjoyed.

I think bethesda alreayd bought theirs for Fallout 76 with PC Gamer. Especially when messages form the developers were reported by PC Gamer rather than posted in the forums.

Resident Evil 4 was GOTY in 2005. Almost unanimously.

Because W3 got many o' many GOTY from site no one ever reads or has heard of. The various tech blogs around the world and the copy-pastes of site like PCG or IGN, that just release the same info just on their native language site, no one bothers to check.

Quite easy.

The rest is up to taste

Adamant supporters often treat their beloved games the way some parents do when confronted with the fact that their six-month-old looks like it fell onto a treadmill and got launched through a plate-glass window seconds after popping out of momma. Their kid is un-cute, but they will launch a nuke at anybody who says otherwise.

Well said.

I personally enjoy F4 over W3.
