[FIXED] Game crashes after pressing "Play".
Right, my game crashes the moment I press "Play" on the launcher. I've tried just about everything I can find. Update my drivers, try older drivers, try another GPU, dissable my firewall, delete the INI files, reinstall the game, validate the game through steam. I've done everything I can, and the game is completely mod free. How do I get the game to run, I just bought it a few hours ago.

Specs: Windows 7, Asus Strix RX480 / R9 280X, i5-3570k @4.4Ghz, Corsair Vengence LP 16Gb @1666mhz, Asus Sabertooth Z77.

EDIT: When I select the game in NMM it tells me that I'm missing some INI file. Every single time I run the program. https://gyazo.com/8781d706006065d62d7cd5a338fcfc3c

EDIT 2: Right, I found the culprit. It's MSI Afterburner, the game won't launch anytime it's running in the background. I should have made sure no programmes were interfering with Fallout before creating this post, my bad. Either way, thanks for the help guys.

Try blocking Fallout 4 in your Firewall. If that fails, try running Steam in offline mode and disconnect your Internet.

Go to Help -> System Information and cut/paste it here. Might be an issue with something not being recognized properly. You are running no mods, correct?

I just fixed mine and posted how I fixed it 10 mimutes ago.

So it never ran at all?

Shockara Apr 23, 2018 @ 10:15pm
It did run perfect Flippy and one day it wouldn't run anymore just like a lot of other people here. I may be wrong but I think it happened after the Windows 10 Creator update until today.

Have you run the game once from steam launcher so it can create the ini file ?

Yeah, I think I have. But the moment I press "Play" in the laucher I get a black screen and a "Fallout 4 has stopped working" message.

No, it never got past the launcher. It crashes the instance I press Play.

I'll do it the moment I get home. Though it's strange that only Fallout 4 would do.. this. I'm not running any mods at all, I never have, the game is completely vanilla.

Having same issue, reinstalled last night, used to work fine when I bought it, played it through then almost to end.

Now I press play, it detected my video settings, saves them as Ultra.
Press Play on the menu and I get a popup "Fallout 4 has crashed" and that's it.

On Win10 Pc, Rx480 Gpu, Ryzen 1600x Cpu. All drivers are current as far as I'm aware. Will try disabling malware and firewall.

Disabling firewall had no effect.

However, went into options, changed default ultra settings to 1080p resolution and now it works fine. Maybe my tv doesn't support the default res or something.

Problem fixed.

i had similar problems with other games recently, the solution for me was rather weird...

i had to go to the folders where the game is installed and i believe the my document folders as well and check the properties of each folder the game is installed to, they are for some reason all getting set to "read only" which is somehow allowing most of the files to get installed, but some however are / were not.. like the ini files.

also, one game i had to make sure i selected "run as administrator" because you know windows is stupid. i AM the administrator!! stupid windows.

When you run Fallout 4 make sure your not using the default resolution, it will cause the game to crash every time set your resolution in game to reflect your set screen resolution for windows, I've noticed that the first time reolution is set to 1100x800 not 1920x1800 that my computer is set to, so it crashed the game. you also need to make it to the loading screen at least once in order for the game to make an .ini file that NMM recognizes.

I do have 109 or sum mods installed tho on fallout 4. But the problem happened out of nowhere when i had already been playing for a couple of days. I also have all dlcs

When was the last time you played the game successfully?

Did you update your mods when the game updated 8 months ago? Did you update your mod organizer and launcher?
