Dapper Gent
I just found this fedora called the Dapper Gent which has pretty good specs including a damage resist of 14. This is helpful when you're wearing an outfit that can't use armour bits.

The only problem is the dmg res only registers as 2 on my pipboy not 14.
So I'm wondering how much I actually get. Does anyone know?

This and my lovingly passive agressive nature is why I use links like this:

Actually, I was curious what the answer was myself.

And, I have a standing agreement with Google. I ask it at least 20 questions a week and it keeps me from becoming dumber than I already am.

i love such answers

a few years ago i searched a answer for a question.
After arround 5 Hours of Google search i had around 400+ Posts that said
"Google it"

The answer i never found btw.
Cant remember what the question was.

Still, Google does not initially answer the question of why he only sees 2 instead of 14. A bit more Googling still does not provide a definitive answer. My Google-fu is weak.

However, I surmise that it related somehow with the difficulty setting.

Science has already figured out how to make nano-thin displays for the arm and IBM just made an entire working computer smaller than a grain of rice so I doubt it will be long before we don't have to think, Just momentarily drool while we access the CLOUD.

There are 2 ways to add damage resistance in the editor
One is (like it was in FO3) on the item itself and the other one is in the table for the different resistances. One of the two adds not to the overview in the pip boy. No idea if it counts at all.

Means i can say you how it happened during the DLC was made. But no idea how it affect the player.

Well thanks for the answers anyway guys. I didn't google it because it's a pretty minor detail and I didn't think my chances were very high. Also I've usually been lucky in this forum and the replies are often quite amusing:)

So I guess I'll just soldier on and hope for the best. Maybe no dmg res but at least it looks pretty cool with the courser's outfit:)

Regarding the item side of things, part of the total resistance can also be applied through an item mod (itself an item) altering the statistics of a base item.

I don't think the Dapper Gent has anything except a legendary slot, but I do know that both the Minuteman Hat and Minuteman General's Hat have an unused armour tier slot for some reason (the slot that usually handles stuff like boiled leather or alloyed metal for armour). It's not accessible normally, but armour tier item mods can be attached to these two hats using a workbench glitch or console commands.
