Do you prefer the Fallout 3/NV or the Fallout 4 version of power armor?
As the title says, which one do you prefer?

In Fallout 3 I only used power armor during broken steel when it became difficult to repair my ranger combat armor and easy to use enclave hellfire armor. Ranger armor and Med-X were enough to reach the DR cap, making power armor pointless.

In New Vegas you don't get power armor training very easily and there aren't alot of sets of power armor, and compared to light armor you move much slower and it doesn't protect very well.

You had light armor perks of +5% crit chance and +10% run speed, speed and sneak bonuses and such. so really was a light armor centric game.

Fallout 4 Power armor is useful to the point of being overpowered.

I don't use it in fallout 4 mainly because the game put alot of effort into armor drops with legendary variants

legendary power armor does not drop if legendary power armor droped from enemies in fallout 4 I'd wear it. As it stands a Basic X-01 suit is pretty good.

I was referring more so to the aesthetics of the armors and less about their DR/DT and usefulness in general. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas, as you said, they really don't serve that great of a use to you unless its for roleplaying purposes.

Aesthetically, I prefer the versions in 3 and NV. 4's seem awkward and almost comical.

Gameplay-wise, it's apples-to-oranges, so I would like to see something resembling both being in beside each other- a stat-boosting armor type and a highly-tweakable limited-use type.

Though proper training should be required for it like in the older games.

That's my view on it, too. I don't understand how someone who just woke up out of cryogenic sleep can just hop into a suit of advanced combat armor that requires an interfacing body suit to work, unless of course Bethesda retconned that, too. Like you said, Fallout 4's seems way too comical. It's thicker than the older design, making it look way too big and out of proportions.

To be fair, you don't need that suit in 3 or NV either. Nate being in the military before the war could explain how he could use it. Nora on the otherhand doesn't have an excuse I'm aware of other than purely a gameplay standpoint.

That said, I prefer how it works and looks in 4. Though I do agree that it could do with a little less bulkiness to it.

Fallout 4, the others it's just a different armor skin.. and nothing of note. not to mention the look is more akin to a suit of battle armor like combat armor, rather than something with a power core and mechanics boosting your actions.

4 makes it into something akin to a true exoskeleton. Not to mention it allows for mission related tweaks and specialization (modifications, paints, etc)

In terms of gameplay, I would choose 3 and NV because I could wear power armor as much as I wanted without draining power from them. In terms of style, I would probably choose F4's version because they look more badass imo.

So long as I can mod them to be closer to long-established lore, I wear them a lot. But the whole rapidly-draining fusion core thing, compared to the established '200 years at maximum drain' Microfusion Packs that they're supposed to run on?

The cores didn't bother me too much with the 45, as I just figured 'eh, it's basically first-gen PA, maybe it had crappy power systems.' And the 60 really looks like it's just upgraded 45, so it might use the same power system. But 51 and 01/APA? Those are not supposed to run out of power. Especially not so quickly after installing a fully charged cell.

the problem with pa in fo4 is not the fusion core consumption, it is the stupid rubbish metal parts the fall apart after being hit for 2 to 3 times, like the stupid thing never welded together at all, and you got blow torch in this game, does not make sense.
bunny de fluff Apr 12, 2018 @ 11:55pm
can you imagine the need to repair your rifle right after every single shot you fired? it is that stupid with pa in this game. the designers went to far with the need to repair. If the weapon repair mechanism in foNV is more like the pa repair system of this game i would never finish playing it, cause I dont want to play the weapon repairmen game.

The part I find annoying about FO4's version is that you can kill a raider wearing power armor and have no way of extracting his corpse out of the frame. Beyond that I prefer it to FO 3/NV. FO3/NV's version just felt like another type of armour with different stats. FO4's look special.

In general 4, wearing the armour feels more substantial then simply changing clothes.

I dont use Power Armor, but FO4 make it feel like something with more substance, previous games it was only another outfit.

Just getting in and out of the armour is epic
