Perfectly Preserved Pie

So I just passed by one of those machines and hit it like usual, but I didn't pay much attention to it since the chance is so low, but I turned around to leave the room and saw the machine pick it up and put it in the slot. I waited a while and nothing happened after the machine reset the arm to the default position. I checked the door and it was still empty and nothing came out, yet the pie was missing from the top.

Did the game bug out or are you not supposed to actually get the pie?

It might be a glitch. Normally, when the pie is picked up, it will be transferred into the container that is built into the machine. But, to retrieve it you need to actually open the inventory of the machine. If I remember right, just looking at quick inventory like you can with dead enemies, the pis won't always show. But, you you actually open the container, it should be there. Or it could have just glitched out.

I'm not sure if those containers despawn item or not, so it might be worth it to return to the machine and look again.

Also note, that the pie will be in the container that is opened via the "door" on the side of the machine. You can't just click anywhere and retrieve it.

Yes. You can get the pie. And the display shelf will not respawn another one. The common misconception that you can't get the pie is because it's random chance that the claw will actually pick it up. And also, as I mentioned, if you hover the cursor over the machine it will give you the quick inventory screen like it does with dead enemies. However, that is not where you have to retrieve it. There is a small door on the side of the machine that you have to actually open, to be able to retrieve it. The door doesn't have an animation (that I remember), but, it does have it's own sound when it opens. And it doesn't always show that the pie it in it if you just put the cursor over it. You have to click on it and open it to be able to see it in the inventory of the machine. Unlike trashcans and mailboxes that all you have to do is look at it and then take what you want, rather than opening it.

Yes. There are othe places to get them. I believe I came across one in F.H.??? Don't quote me on that, but, I seem to remember one just sitting out in the open somewhere after I had just unlocked the island.

I don't remember Far Harbour in particular, but Nuka World has a couple you can easily take from Cappy's Cafe, and Automatron has one in a the Mechanist's Lair in one of those blue wall things that store food.

According to the wiki, Even with an extremely high luck, Plus mods from clothes etc, There's like a stupidly tiny chance of getting the pie. If the arm adjusts itself a tiny bit BEFORE lowering on an attempt, It's a pie get. There's a machine in the Nuka World scrapyard that will always reward a pie too.

It is possible to get a glitch where you see the sucess animation, but it still doesn't appear lootable, was reading the wiki on this just the other day. The chance to get it is both dependant on luck and the number of previous attempts, the higher each is ups the chance of success, so it is possible to get it with some dedication. I just wish I knew if it counts all attempts up to a success accross all machines, and if the glitch resets the counter as a success would.

It's not all that much to worry about, really. The pie itself is something rare and cool to collect, but not a must-have item without which you'll be unable to succeed.

The whole point of the thread was that the machine grabbed the pie, but I didn't get it as a reward from the machine.

This was my first thought since it is a Bethesda game. Guess I'll keep trying (not constantly, that animation takes way too long to sit there and spam it) when I find the machines.

Question: To get the achievement, do you need to get the pie from the machine or do you just need to pick one up?
