But wait until you give it to a settler with one bullet :-)
This is the second time I've seen this type of comment. I was always under the belief that the only weapon that a settler had infinite ammo for was the one they arrived with. Have I been wrong all along? Can I give a mini-gun to a settler with a single round of 5mm and expect to never have to give them ammo again?
instantly makes it a good gun
It’s kind of like the 10mm pistol and pipe pistol logic.
Good weapons to start with but not good weapons to main.
If you want to be a heavy weapon main you’ll be much better off with Flamer, rocket launcher and the fat man.
When given one bullet, settlers have infinite ammo with most weapons. Companions, on the other hand, are different. Your active companion only has infinite ammo with their default weapon. Inactive companions instead work like settlers.
The damage per shot is not great enough to make it worth the bullets. I think there's a damage threshold that has to be exceeded to do any damage, like the damage resistant perk.
Use single shot, and it's about learning to shoot straight, rookie.
Not much better than a regular minigun. The fire does damage over time, and does not stack. So multiple bullets hitting isn't better than one bullet. That is different from an explosive or wounding weapon, where each bullet either does its damage immediately (explosive), or the effects stack (wounding).
Flaming is probably the worst of the legendary effects that add damage.
That let me figure out just how abysmal the minigun is,
Making the assumption that all shots hit, the DPS (after DR) of a minigun with a basic barrel was equal to that of a basic automatic 10mm pistol and the miniguns best possible DPS (w/accelerated barrel) fell significantly below that of a hardened automatic 10mm and was only around 10% greater than that of a powerful automatic pipe.
The assumption that I am making there though is far, far more favourable to the minigun than ignoring reloads is to the other guns since the minigun is likely to miss more than half of its shots (among other problems)......
Without legendary effects it only excels in being awful.
The spin up is why I would much prefer other explosive legendaries over the minigun.
