Settlers do consume food (and water) in the workshop, so it can be a valid reason why there is no food showing up. Thats why Inept European mentioned supply lines. There was no reason to be rude.
If you only have one settlers working four tato plants, three melon, and two razorgrain then you can easily end up with no razorgrain on some days because it is only going to produce 6 food items at random at most (before population food consumption.) So with leftover after consumption possibly being three items, you could get two tatos and a melon instead.
Settlers prefer to eat tatos first. So the general rule of thumb is to planet enough tatos to cover the population and then plant the excess crops you want to grow.
