Cant assign settlers
On one of my characters, I am unable to assign settlers to tasks. They just say "Yes" or "OK", but the "This resource is now assigned" prompt does not show up, and the resource is not manned or harvested. This is especially frustrating relating to setting up artillery cannons or when literally everyone in the slog is starving. Any possible fixes or just screw the minutemen altogether?

You don't assign settlers to jobs by just talking to them.

You need to enter Workshop mode and assign them from there by selecting them and then selecting the appropriate object you wish them to work.

If this isn't working for you, troubleshoot your mods or go back to a save where it DID work.

Besides workshop mode, you can also build a VaultTec terminal and assign them randomly from there.
Assuming you are using the right method, in busy settlements or with anything causing script lag (including certain mods) there can be a very big delay in assigning tasks. If you keep trying to repeat the assignment this just gets worse.

Reduce the clutter in the settlement. Store or delete radios, interaction points. Restart the game. Leave and return. If that does not work, start removing mods.

yeah give it time.

had an event in the sunshine tidings co-op, had alot of corn had 40 food in corn there but also some was not being worked, so I found some settlers and assigned them to the unworked corn..

and then watched my food tick down from 40 to 0. then I just reassigned everyone. but yeah it just works. don't get frustrated. its just corn.
Sometimes I get this issue with assigning settlers to a resource and usually it doesn't work right for me until I actually pick up the selected resource after having assigned it (lets say its a stalk of corn) and then put it back down. Then the resource will change from red to green and show it's been assigned to a settler, which it wasn't before.

It's happened to me on both PS4 and PC versions, both with the first version and the GOTY one, so I don't think it's exclusive to what you play on either. Otherwise I'd just see the settler I tried to assign standing about like a stunned mullet until I've done so. it's not a huge inconvenience, I only wish I'd figured sooner - I accidentally happened upon it when I picked up a resource by mistake and put it back down.

Try that anyway, see if it fixes the issue. Fingers crossed, it works for you. :)

Will try that. If all else fails I’ll just join Nuka World to see if Preston can die.
Open console

click your cursor/pointer on the settler, make sure you see there base id/ref id

enter the following in separate lines.

addkeyword workshopallowcommand
addkeyword workshopallowmove
addkeyword workshopallowcaravan

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
