When freedom calls does not start (Probably mod related problem)
I got this problem with the quest, i began a new playtrough and the quest didn't start when i killed the raiders outside, so i entered the museum killed them but the door is locked, resetting their AI does nothing, tried a lot of commands to start the quest but that also didn't work so i don't know wtf is going on.

When this happened in one playthrough it turned out there was a raider outside that had spawned inside one of the buildings and could only be hit with damage from a grenade etc. so the balcony dialogue requesting help did not activate.

Now if there is a mod in that long list that edits concord, raiders, MM, or quests related to the MM there could be a conflict. I recall reports about some CC content that could cause issues though I thought that was with the opening codsworth stuff but been a while since I read the information.

i have militarized minutemen that edits the minutemen in almost every aspect, tomorrow i'll try to deactivate it and i'll let you know

look to the wiki for the QUEST STAGES. scroll down the page a bit to find that section. then type in the console commands to progress the quest to the stage that you want.

example:
setstage 1a001c 10
to start the quest, or
setstage 1a001c 1000
to complete it and bypass it

This could be very simple, i hope it works.

Did you talk to Codsworth and trigger his dialouge before you went into Concord?

No matter the mods i still think you "have" to talk to him, get Nora/Nate's Holotape and respond to the "Search the Neighbourhood for Shaun" with him. He will tell you to go to Concord, and he will be availible as a Companion once you do.

The CC Tunnel Snakes mess up this Quest stage, maybe other mods also mess this up.

So i have a bunch of mods like start me up for example and i remember that i talked to codsworth before i actually went to vault 111, and also he didn't gave me the quest objective to search in concord. I'll start over again because it's only 1 hour of playtrough so it doesn't matter.

so i restarted the playtrough, completed the initial start me up quest then i went to talk to codsworth and as usual i followed him in the houses to kill the bloatflies but he didn't want to exit the first house so i tried a bunch of things like disabling and reanebling him resetting his ai and even killing the other lies in the other house then moving him to me with the command but it did not work and he didn't talk to me, i saw that people have a simililar problem that is caused by a creation club item (i don't have any). So got any ideas on what i might try to do ?

oh and i stopped there because people that were getting this problem where getting the same issue with preston.

I do not use mods. But I have seen posts on here, stating just deactivating a mod or even removing them, does not always remove some files in the game which can cause conflicts. You may want to uninstall the game and then reinstall it.

Try do remove / disable the Start me up part. Your problems seem so similar to how the Tunnel Snakes break, and it seems to be linked to the startup of the game, leaving Vault 111 first time.

It (TS) messes with Codsworth's dialouge and quest chain which IS a Pre req for any dealings with Preston. At least search the Start me up Forums own FaQ.

I use startMeUp sice ages and never had any problems with it

Wrong. Both are completely independent quests: 'out of time' is MQ and speaking to Codsworth is entirely optional (in fact I never do). 'when freedom calls' is MM

for sure this sounds like one of your mods causing trouble. and i would guess that even if you made it past the freedom calls bug it would just continue breaking your quests the whole way through.

i'm not real familiar with a lot of mods but here's what i would do.

start a new game with no mods running. exit vault 111. do a save game. now you have a point to start from if things get wonky.

now enable the mods you believe to be safe and not causing this problem. just flip on a few of them at a time, then go test this. maybe talk to codsworth and see if he breaks. maybe you can use him to test the quest bug. maybe you won't have to go all the way to concord each time.

but enable a few more mods and try it again. eventually you'll enable the offending mod and the problem will come back.

once you've narrowed it down to the offending mod you can try changing the load order of that mod. maybe it works up high in the list, or down low on the list but if changing the load order doesn't fix it then you gotta just remove that mod.

try just this suggestion and see if it helps. you could also do it this way, simply disable one mod at a time (the one you think might be the culprit) and do the narrowing down that way.

Yes, my mistake. You can go around Codsworth. And directly to The Museum in Concord, and it should trigger the "museum" MM Quest, and it should proceed as normal. Then you can go back, talk to Codsworth and get him as companion to experience his dialouge with the Trapped Settlers.

But The Tunnel Snake messes all of this up. And OP's game is also messed up. But with a MOD list a mile long i cannot guess otherwise, it just 'sounded' familiar to the Tunnel Snake Trouble.

My best guass is that two standalone mods that work fine by themselves still interact on some scripts or such and cause trouble. I have played with Tunnel Snsakes as *only Mod* and it worked. Next time it did not.

This is my first comment ever on steam. I just started a new playthrough about an hour ago. I'm having the exact same issue. Codsworth gets stuck in the first house. Preston won't talk to me from the balcony. I'm using the same mods I've always used.

I tried disabling the fast start mod. You stay locked in the cyro pod after they take Shawn. Gotta be a different one I guess.
