bunker hill NPCs unassigned
hello all,
I finally, after a few hundred hours, unlocked the build at bunker hill. I never even knew it was an option after the battle of bunker hill. well not thinking, I immediately set up a recruiting beacon, just to attract a settler to serve as a provisioner, forgetting that after a provisioner is assigned all settlers bug out and become unassigned. this isn't an issue for Kessler who appears to be assignable, but all other settlers are now unassigned and while they still offer the barter dialogue, they don't actually have access to their store inventories. I've tried a number of console commands to fix them, no joy.

recycleactor- targeted deb- she respawned nude, and fast travelling away and returning gave her back her personal inventory, but didnt assign her to her shop

setdestroyed 0- targeted at shops as they appeared to also suffer the damage bug, fixed the damage state but still no NPCs returning to their shop

setcommandstate 1- tried on deb and kay, I can tell them where to stand, but nothing more.

I created new shops and reattempted command state, no joy.

built a vault tec settlement mgmt terminal, can't assign to shops though the shops do appear in the terminal list.

at this point I'm pretty pissed because I've spent a few good hours building up bunker hill how I want it and really don't feel like going back to square one just because fallout 4 is a glitchy mess that unassigns workers every time you send one to another settlement. anyone have any possible solutions to this mess?

so i did a google search for "reassign bunker hill fallout 4", and this video popped up. might help you out if you can follow the console commands.

that did the trick, it seems like there's a bit of trial and error, certain npcs need to be activated in a specific order for the console commands to take, some needed to be selected from inside the building console while others needed the workshop to be closed to be selected but it all worked. strange that video didn't come up during any of my searches, I probably wasn't specific enough, apparently bunker hill is one of the more buggy parts of the game. thanks a bunch for finding that Aaron.

you're welcome. glad it helped. i've never had this problem that i know of, but it's good to know there's a solution should i run in to it this play-through :D

You cant assign them because they are not settlers. They are resting-up trader caravan guards. 6 of them iirc. The current merchants there, the store, bar and doctor, I have found best to leave alone unless you want to bug out the whole of Bunker Hill, making it crash every time you get close to it.
This is how I build in Bunker Hill. On the roof. Lots of room that way.

Some there are not intended to be assigned. So it is not a bug, but working as intended. It really causes no issues enough to be concerned about.
Yes you should not expect to assign anyone except Kessler really. Why would you want to? Shops are more valuable than farming or guarding.

for the record, I wasn't trying to use the generic caravan workers, all the vendors had unassigned and would not vend, I can always attract new settlers if I want farmers and such. so far, 24 hours, in it has remained stable after console commands to fix the vendor unassignment issues.

Would not barter? That is not normal. You using any mods?

actually fallout 4 is I think the first bethesda game that has proven stable without them. I typically only use unofficial patches and the odd occassional reskin, but FO4 doesn't really need any of them... for me at least.

this is a common issue for me as every time I assign a provisioner it unassigns all other settlers at that location, but that's usually not an issue for me because it's usually the first task I assign. however bunker hill comes pre-populated and I wasn't expecting it to happen to non-generic NPCs.

Well, I use no mods or even the Unofficial patch and I still have not had the issue with Bunker Hill merchants not bartering. I take it over when it is available to do so, and then set up a recruitment beacon to get more settlers and the ones I can not assign, I leave them alone. Really not a issue.

But I do not assign a provisoner from Bunker Hill. I normally have all of my provisoners coming from Grey Garden as robot ones. Occasionally from other settlements. Only issue I have ever had with provisoners is ones which are synths. Which can get killed.
