Randolph safehouse mission taking me to Farharbour
Hey everyone. So I got a mission from the Railroad to Farharbour (for some reason that is beyond me). I'm aware of this issue and I would normally check after recieving a quest that it was in the Commonwealth but this time I didn't and I don't have a save prior to getting the quest.

I'm not ready to go to Farharbour yet, and I don't know if I need to do this quest to move the Railroad questline on.

I'm at the point in the main quest where you have to take out a courser to get his chip, but I thought it would be cool to do the Railroad questline in concert with that. It makes sense from a roleplaying perspective.

So the question is do I need to do this quest to mover the Railroad questline on? The only oter quests available are the Mila ones for Tinker Tom? And if I carry on with the main quest and go to the Institute will that cut off the remaining Railroad quests?

Thanks everyone.

And thanks Bethesda for making this so difficult and frustrating.

i don't know if it will help since you're already so far along but there's this mod that prevents getting quests outside the commonwealth like that.

as for the quest line, it doesn't matter who you work with, the goal is always to get the courser chip and gain access to the institute, but sooner or later you have to choose a side. eventually, advancing the quest line so far will shut out other possibilities.

EDIT:

i'm not trying to give away too many details but there are two real big times when your decision who to back really matters. one is the battle at bunker hill and the other is when you travel to the mass fusion building. most of the other quests you can take won't mess up your other possibilities more than these two will

The Randolph safehouse missions are side quests. That don't have any impact on the Railroad questline.

And as long as you don't anger a faction, you can still do their side quests. The missions that cause you to become an enemy of a faction will specifically tell you so. You can't miss it.
