Mercer Safehouse
Where is the oddest place you have been sent to secure it? I just got sent to an island of the coast I didn't even know existed. I literally had to tromp along the bottom of the ocean in my power armor with a bunch of broken building and large equipment to climb/float over. It wasn't where I would think to put a safe house but it definitely isn't the easiest to get to.

If you mean Spectacle Island, I've had Mercer Safehouse established there before.

It even adds a bit of convenience since the safehouse has a separate map marker for fast travel purposes and Spectacle Island is big enough for that to be well away from the normal spot.

I guess if you build a dock you can pretend they're shipping the synths overseas. :steammocking:

Being repeatedly attacked by a mirelurk queen doesn't fit too well with my concept of a "safe" house. :steammocking:

There is only like eight possible locations for Mercer Safehouse.
All of them are the settlements without any settlers already on them.

Technically you can choose which settlement by leaving certain settlements unclaimed and claiming the other ones.

If you claim every settlement before you get the Mercer Safehouse quest, the game will pick a settlement at random. In One of my play throughs I had Abernathy farm as the safwhouse

I wonder what would happen if you had all twelve locations from the quest's formlist taken over as Nuka World raider outposts.

I'm guessing it would either want you to clear one, or just ignore the raiders and allow it anyway.

Mercer Safehouse will always send you to an uninhabited settlement.

What I’ve noticed is it seems to prioritize settlements in easier to reach areas.

The most common spots I’ve been sent to secure are red rocket, taffington boathouse, Jamaica plains and hangman’s alley.

If it’s sending you out to spectacle island it’s most likely either bad luck or you have claimed all other spots.

It’d be ridiculous to expect a player to claim spectacle island when they are at the stage of doing railroad main quests.

It’s the hardest settlement to claim.

Mercer Safehouse who ? First I hear of it in some 1500hrs. of play.

When I got that quest, it was somewhere in the south near the glowing sea. I decided to just kill 'em all like Father asked, because that was the safer thing to do.

I don't think I have them all but I do have the majority. It was a pain to get to the first time but the mirelurks actually ran away from me for some reason so I had to actually hunt them down to fully clear the settlement. I have heard that it is one of the hardest to build up as it apparently gets attacked a lot so you have to go back to defend or repair things to keep its happiness up so it grows. Plus it is apparently hard for the caravans to actually get there although there is a settlement close enough to actually develop a caravan line so you can get it back to your main land headquarters in a round about way.

How is it the hardest to claim?

Murkwater Construction and The Castle both have mirelurk queens. Coastal Cottage has one that can wander up as well.

Caravan route in the game does not matter. The code only cares if it is connected or not.

If you are playing with a mod that makes settlers mortal well you asked for that sort of torture.

Murkwater is just one singular mirelurk Queen and the castle is a singular queen with a bunch of low level mirelurks plus you have support clearing the castle.

Spectacle island is an infestation of high level mirelurks that can easily swarm you to death.

How does the queen swarm you when you have to activate the power and flip a switch?

Once the speaker switch is on all the mirelurks run.... kinda opposite of a swarm tactic.

There is a couple different ways to make it an easy fight.
1. Kill all the mirelurks before turning the power on and spawning the queen.
2. Activate the power and run to the speaker switch instead of fighting the mirelurk queen.
3. Land mines.

If you run straight to the power switch and do none of the above then you made it harder on yourself.

I think it might of bugged out for me because they ran off before I even powered anything on. Then when I noticed they weren't charging me I actually turned it on thinking it attracted them but they still just ran away so maybe it was activated somehow with out the generator being on. The question I have is if you build do they come back a lot?

Even if they came back (which they don't), you'd presumably have built some defenses which would make it much easier.

The main ones I find fiddly are up around the workbench shed at the top of the hill, because I use the stealth bar (I don't take more than rank 3 of the Sneak perk) to locate them and scare them out individually and some are a bit tricky to hit underground.
