Starlight Drive-In
I've had this quest for a while, but I can't get it to complete so I've skipped it. Basically, I've cleared out the mole-rats, built the radio beacon and generator and connected them, and the beacon is sounding, but the quest is still marked incomplete and I'm unsure of what else to do.

What's the name of the quest?
My work schedule is usually:
1) Murder Wolfgang (counts as a murder)
2) Trade with Trudy.
3) Kill Starlight drive in Mole-rats (count =6) .
4) ~scapall and build a settlement away from that idiot Garvey who got all the minutemen killed and thinks Sole Survivor is his new disposable toy.
5) Loot Sanctuary for all it's worth and take the loot to Starlight Drive In.

The quest is Taking Point: Starlight Drive-in.

It's been a long time since I did any of Preston's stuff, but don't you need to talk to him again to complete it?

It should update and tell us to go back and talk to him.

I have sometimes found that one of the molerats ran off into the woods (I usually find it fighting a bloatfly or blood bug) and while this let us take the settlement I think the quest still wants it killed before it acknowledges we took over the settlement.

You do, but it says that I still need to build/activate radio beacon. Where I'm stumped is that I have built and activated the beacon, and yet it's not marked as complete. I guess it's a glitch/bug.

I have also sometimes had to scrap the generator wire, generator and radio beacon and rebuild them not sure why but it could be a power grid bug issue where it thinks its not powered up when it is.

oh, right.

The wiki mentions using "setlocationcleared 24F96 1" if you can't find all the molerats. Might be worth a try.

I didn't actually think ypu could activate the workshop as long as any were still alive (I always get the 'clear the area' message when I try), but perhaps the Taking Point quest adds some complications to things.

hmm. I often build things in the wrong order when I first get to Sanctuary in a new game, so the tutprial pop up keeps insisting I build something I've already built, but there isn't really a lot to mix up with only a generator and a beacon at Starlight, so I don't know.

I was hoping the wiki would list quest stages, so you perhaps could have used the console to complete that bit, but it doesn't and I don't really know how to find such things.

Technically that is how it is supposed to work but I have found in some cases if the target moves far enough away it disconnects from the settlement but is still in the quest alias so the quest still wants them cleared while the workshop sees the settlement as empty. It is probably a bug I run into sometimes.

if you already built the beacon, try storing it in the workshop then re-placing it. if it doesn't work you can try to console command your way to quest completion. in fact, after looking, on the starlight drive-in wiki page it says this:

During Taking Point: Starlight Drive In, one may be unable to clear all of the hostiles even if they have been removed. Possible causes range from clearing the location prior to being assigned the mission, to clipping issues with the hostile mole rats not coming above ground. [verified]

- Using the console command killall will end the mission, by killing all the enemy targets.

- Using the console command setlocationcleared 24F96 1 will set the location correctly cleared, allowing you to activate the workshop.

- Using a frag grenade to destroy one of the cars might bring the mole rats above ground.

- Using a melee weapon, or bare fists, to attack the holes with a marker over them, might be able to damage the mole rats.

Ok, I've tried the codes, I tried looking for a runaway mole-rat, I tried scrapping the generator and beacon and rebuilding but none of it completes the mission. If I go on the map though, it does say that it is cleared so idk.

and you tried talking to preston?

i would try setstage then. try this in the console and see if it prompts you to talk to preston

setstage MinRecruit06 450

and if not try this to see if it will just mark the quest as complete and get it off your list

setstage MinRecruit06 500

and if it doesn't work using the quest id you can try using the form id

setstage 0015F040 500

There are a few molerats up on the hillside too. Once I killed them, quest was marked as complete.

Another possibility is a known bug as described on the wiki. I have cleared the nearby railyard a few times, used killall but the quest won't complete. Apparently there is an expiry when the quest will complete as failed but it takes several days. But I would try omtech1's solution. Also search the projector and screen areas.
