Railroad ending was quite a let down
The Railroad questline has interesting missions like Red Glare mission, infiltrating Switchboard and fighting alongside Glory, but overall it was letdown and it's not just the side quests that are a problem. The synth "rebellion" wasn't exactly huge, just few synth rebels and where are the other synths? BOS invasion of the Institute is more awesome than that of RR, but I'll give credit that RR's attack on Prydwen is more fun especially when infiltrating. What also is bad is that you cannot follow Liam Binet's plan, it made more sense. Freeing every machine possible? That's how Commonwealth ends up with robots like Gabriel tormenting the wastelanders. Another most disgusting thing I saw was how Railroad quickly turned on Liam Binet, he worked with Railroad for so long, he helped synths escape to surface and managed to keep his identity secret for so long, but the moment Sole Survivor gets inside and also learns of rebel Z1, the organization turns on him? What? What if some synths are sleeper agents, waiting for a code program to attack RR, what if Z1 has more radical idea after Synth rebellion? I guess, another detail is how Deacon mentions that not everyone in RR fights for synths, but everyone in hold does fight for synths, more so, the player also has to do so.

Well it is a bite late for story feedbacks, but allow me to add two different points of view that may help you to think of things from a different perspective.

The Questline with Gabriel is great because on one hand it tries to sway you to think that freeing synths is bad. After all he became a raider right? But that is the point of free will.
Crime can only exist if characters have free will. If you were to brainwash/programm every freed slave to become a model citizen - well then you've just replaced one form of slavery with another. The Railroad path gives you a realistic outcome - you can't get the good without the bad. At least not if "free will" is on the menu

The liam questlines (I won't spoiler the other, but if you completely avoid all RR quests and go straight for the institute you are locked out of the RR and you get a different questline to take care of him... that's all i'm going to say here)
Anyway
Liam's character is well written and you are falling for the first view of the situation as it was set up for the players. Liam is a little roudy rebel in his own world. He does things he feels are right - but only as far as they are convenient for him. When he is confronted with the choice: -) free all slaves - knowing that this will restrict him in his own conformt and livelyhood or -) just continue and free some while dooming all of those who are left behind to a life of slavery for the rest of their days.
Given that choice Liam opts for the path that is convenient for him. Something that has no risk for him and that won't change his little world. The moment there are no synths left to toy around with - his little rebel role and the ego that he has built for himself would be gone as well.

What ending did you expect ? RR are an underground gang, raiders that help synths that have gone bad, rogue. No matter what crimes those synths committed.

Is there any way to do things Liam's way? I never saw an option, but if there is a way I could hear out a small spoiler on that part.

True, I guess but then another ethical question would be is it worth adding more trouble to the Commonwealth by bringing new... people in into it? Synths do have human emotions as well as a power off switch, but the Institute affiliated synths also have options. The synth that wants to replace Art does it on his own will and doesn't question this order at all, X6 gains more free will by time player either gains high approval or crisis moment with him, in fact most Coursers are picked from Synths that show unique traits. Now, wherever synths should be free or not could be matter of debate for later, but I think it's fair to say not every Synth feels enslaved by Institute, some serve it on their own volition.

Well, yeah it sort of is selfish of Liam, but I get him a bit. It's not exactly easy to give up comforts of life when alternative may be worse, like live in the wasteland. No Institute scientist would survive a day up on the surface without synths or any other robot butler.
Iron Knights (Banned) Feb 3, 2022 @ 6:26pm
The Institute also does not recall people for free will, if anything they welcome it. Replacing key people on the surface may seem common, but how many have you known ? Diamond City Mayor, an Advisor in Far Harbor and a Knight in BOS are the only ones that can make any significant moves. The institute sends synths to the surface in order to eventually have a population of synths only, so that triggers to a new nuclear war will be seen & caught early and history will not repeat. On the daily chore is taking care of synths gone rogue aka Criminal, repeating the bad elements of human behavior. Thus RR helping criminals infiltrate human society.

I always do railroad just past taking down the Brotherhood Blimp, then I switch to Minutemen. Railroad should keep being the RailRoad and not defender of checkpoints.

Love, Love the defense of the institute who we can see slaughtering towns and drifters all OVER the place. But a Synth turns bad...well the whole Railroad System is Flawed BURN IT THE ♥♥♥♥ DOWN.

♥♥♥♥ the Institute. I wouldn't want to live in their world. And I would burn the world down before I had to. (This is the Throw the SweetRoll on the ground and stomp on it before they can take it from you choice first shown in TES Arena.)

Not gonna defend the Institute. I never usually side with them for their FEV experiments for which they deserve to get nuked into oblivion. It's a big shame you can't bring the questions about FEV lab, University Point to Shaun, Bethesda tried hard to avoid Institute answering these questions. I guess, it only makes sense to side with Institute if one is evil or just wants to spent time with Shaun which he doesn't give and more interested in sending you on dangerous assignments.

You're talking about that one quest as if its the only thing why RR is bad. There could be more examples of freed Synths like Gabriel, but it's not just that. RR prioritizing saving synths rather than ghouls or enslaved humans is a big f you to the other groups in wasteland who have it hard. The worst is Dez talking about Commonwealth having deep hatred for synths like its their fault, makes you wonder how RR would solve Art dilemma. Would they let Art be replaced by replica synth of him or would they attack the synth cosplaying as Art?
Ihateeverybody Feb 4, 2022 @ 8:19am
They would kill the Synth Art. That wasn't a freed synth. It was an institute replacer. I never found anything ambigious but I am an oddity. If its shooting at you and won't stop. KILL IT.

If you go to Mcdonalds and ask to get your suit drycleaned they will tell you they only do Hamburgers and Fries. Don't GO TO MCDONALDS TO GET YOUR SUIT DRYCLEANED. I hate that argument....but what about the poor little ghouls, the humans, the kitty cats. WHO WILL SAVE THE TEDDY BEARS BEING FORCED TO HAVE SEX IN LOCKERS.

Ok Ghouls. Good Neighbor, The slog, other Communities (I see ghouls with humans wandering around all the time.

Enslaved humans (Uh...where?). Are you talking the Captives? I don't see any other group rushing to their aid. Diamond city must not care, Brotherhood must not care. Minutemen have failed. But yeah, the only group dedicated and freeing synths should drop every thing to go save that farmer. Minutemen got that angle covered if you build them back up.

Kitty cats. Don't worry about them, they are good.

Teddy Bears....ONLY THE SOLE SURVIVOR Can rescue them.

Its a facile argument to blame the railroad for no one helping anyone but synths.

Don't call a plumber to fix your car. Call a mechanic or fix it yourself.

RR doesn't want to kill synths unless necessary, even when forced to, they do it with regret. In fact, some like Glory even want to free Gen 1-2 synths free. So it raises a question about RR/

The Ghouls in former Fallout games used to be different, F4 makes some NPCs to be more tolerant of them, when previously nobody liked them, Goodneighbor exists because the Ghouls were kicked out. In New Vegas, a NCR soldier turned Ghoul survives the nuclear attack by Legion, his CO refuses to let him return, so only choice for him is to join the Ghoul squad in the NCR army. Ghouls were very rare in New Vegas, in F3 they also faced prejudice. Diamond City security is corrupt, if the Mayor is rid of, then things would return to normal in DC and kidnappings would get investigated again. Minutemen failed and it's different topic.

Original Railroad started out as organization to free human slaves. in Fallout slavery has resurfaced and it present in Capital Wasteland, in F4 at Nuka-World, it's present in NV. Considering, how there were problems before synths came to existence, it is strange RR never came earlier to help out ghouls or wastelanders that needed a hand before. If you're building organization named after predecessor who freed slaves before, is it wrong to expect that this organization would look after all?
Ihateeverybody Feb 4, 2022 @ 1:06pm
Glory doesn't seem to have a problem. Have you done Malden Metro with her?

Again there are OTHER people working on those OTHER problems and you are not blaming ANY OF THEM for not helping synths. In fact some of those others actively work against free synths.

So why are you blaming the Railroad for not helping Ghouls or Farmers.

Why would the Railroad Help Farmers or Ghouls or anyone else? Why ? Why should they? The Current Railroad is meant to Help Synths Escaped from the Institute. Thats what the people involved signed up for. They don't owe anyone else ANYTHING AT ALL. Railroad doesn't receive Government Funding. They aint using your tax money.

Seriously where do you get the expectation for them to help anyone else? That is the point I am trying to get across. WHO is the one who told you their purpose was to help non-Synths? TELL ME THEIR NAME!

Because the Institute uses Synths to replace Humans, it has caused all Synths to be considered Dangerous because evidently the institute can just press a button or speak a code and make them do their whim. That's why people don't trust a synth (freed or otherwise). Thats why the RR Move them OUT of the commonwealth.

As regards to the Underground Railroad I can make the Same argument you are making. Where were they when the Native Americans were being herded onto reservations. When the Asian Immigrants were being enslaved to build the railroads. Where were they when the Sheepherders were being Tyrranized by the Cattle Barons? When woman were literally being sold as mail order brides.

There is alot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ human history we can play "where were you when I WAS BEING Oppressed". Point being, they are doing what they can. You want a problem solved. Solve it yourself. Thats what the Sole Survivor did.

Yeah, that mission was great compared to rest of awful RR quests, MILA are the worst of side quests.

Minutemen are meant to help everyone, even synths or Institute refugees, they are the definition of Chaotic Good in Fallout, comparable to Followers of Apocalypse, they have little negative reception besides been incompetent. No ♥♥♥♥, BoS works against Synths, Ghouls, Super Mutants, I don't have complaints against them because they are already criticized.

Sure, alright, RR voluntarily decided to be a faction to help synths, then where did these people come from? From what critical thinking location has RR got its allies, because wasteland is hardly a place where wastelanders are tolerant or philosophical on the synth rights. The Scavs near the USS Constitution are ignorant of America, wastelanders overall aren't well educated and the only qualified doctors are in Vault 81 and in DC. So, where did RR come from, when did some wastelanders began thinking that synths are same as them? If it was organization that started out in DC, then it'd make some sense but RR's main HQ was in Lexington, then in Old North Church, only one agent (and on first mission only) said "By the Wall" that implied he must be from Diamond City, Deacon is from University Point.

I played BOS I burned down RR, I played Institute I burned down RR, will be playing Minutemen next, will guarantee to burn down RR with a Vengence. Raider Criminals protecting Criminal Synths.
Ihateeverybody Feb 4, 2022 @ 10:53pm
I must have missed all those times and Quests Garvey sent me to rescue a synth in need.......................................................................................................................Don't make ♥♥♥♥ up.

RR Gets its recruits and allies from those wanting to Fight the Institute (Which it is the only one doing at the time the SS Enters the picture), those who have have suffered from Institute actions and those who have known Synths and been positively impacted by them.

Seriously this is all covered by actual in game dialogue and events....unlike your "The Minutemen totally want to save synths....its just.....well.....another Settlement needs the Minutemen and I have to stay here in Sanctuary, protected by all these turrets to make sure the Oven stays on .....yeah thats it." (Also covered by in game Dialogue).

Edit: and by the way I am in no way telling people how to play the game. DO whatever you want, My only issue is the spreading of lies and misinformation and most of all the abominable practice of Hubris. My side is much better and making the world a better place. No side is making the world a better place. NONE. Because there is no real BETTER. Someone always suffers and its usually not that someones choice.

"and the only qualified doctors are in Vault 81 and in DC."

Not true. Ghoul Doctor near Arcjet in a radiated area (wait until she comes out in the daytime to the patio); Doc Andersen random encounter area's, Doc (I don't remember the name) Caravan between Slog and County Crossing and parts east (Near Salem). Thats not counting DLC areas. Bunker hill has a doctor. Define Qualified. Nobody has a degree. Oh and you forgot the INSTITUTE...wooooooo the boogie person.
