1. Create a shortcut to the f4se_loader on your desktop.
2. Edit the Steam launcher properties to target the f4se_loader.
3. Create a tool on the dashboard tab in Vortex pointing to the f4se_loader.
Personally I advise option three or one and to avoid option two.
You should also edit Fallout 4 properties to only update when launched, and have Steam running in the background before launching the F4SE. This way you can avoid any Fallout4.exe updates that will invalidate your F4SE. Even though it has been two years since the last Fallout4.exe update they could start again at some point.
Fallout 3 was released in late October of 2008, so that's just over 13 years ago. Maybe in 2028 Bethesda will spring a Fallout 3 remaster on us.
now I did remove all the ambush kit stuff but it did crash after that & before I recycled the robot. SO 2 questions remaining:
1.) did that Glitch dead robot do it? (I say yes but I'd like another's input)
2.) with Buffout 4 the Nexus page said it enables achievements with mods but when I opened the save and made it an [M] save I was warned achievements were disabled so does Buffout 4 work? or does this message still display even with this mod active?
if it doesn't work what mod I need to enable achievements in modded saves?
You receive that warning once but the M should have gone away if Buffout 4 is running.
so I went hunting in my game files opened buffout 4's file location its says its in stalled but when I went to the path where the nexus page says its crash logs should be in:
user/my name/Documents/My Games/Fallout 4/F4SE
I open the Text Document here F4SE 3rd line down says this:
couldn't load plugin C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\F4SE\Plugins\\Buffout4.dll (Error 126)
so I think buffout 4 is installed but failing to activate in the actual game any clue how to fix?
so it was tbbmalloc.dll was not present so I'll list it here if anyone has this issue:
1. goto Buffout 4 nexus page click files download TBB Redistributables
2. Make a new folder in your file explorer (either downloads or documents) & name it something you'll know what its for like Buffout 4 Dependency
3. Virus scan optional (but you should to be safe) open the TBB Redistributables compressed zip folder.
4. find your Fallout 4.exe application file should be in:
This PC/program files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4
5. Drag & drop the tbbmalloc.dll into this area with the Fallout 4.exe application
6. open Control pannel app from windows start bar look for: Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 & make sure the date it upto date with the curent day/month/year
7. if all this checks out launch the game & buffout 4 SHOULD be loaded & working & no more [M] tags on saves means you now have achievements & mods + you don't need another mod for it, & you have all the wonderful features of Buffout 4.
my only question is F4SE uses Vortex & auto installs .dlls into this file path so why can't Buffout 4 do this with tbbmalloc.dll?
I missed that file myself the first time around because it appears in the files section and is easily missed. Others I helped install missed it as well. I think I evne left a message on the Buffout 4 page pointing out a lot of people are missing the file on their install.
No idea.
I find help all the time, the problem is sorting through 90% of the trash that comes up in a search. You have to be very vague and use certain keywords.
At any rate you should be good to go now. The moment you crash it will create a crashlog and then you just need to read the exception line to get the conflicts, and then check the mod slot number against your load order.
While it seems like a pain in the ass to install and get running it literally saved me hours and hours of troubleshooting mods. When you are running like 50-100 mods it is a complete pain to play the disable game to find the conflict.
Na well now that this is closed I just need to find a Buffout 4 equivalent for Skyrim & start fixing that game with mods.
Of course the big issue right now is because SAE came out at midnight and SSE got an update last night most mods are now incompatible if they use SKSE.
