Don't blame Bethesda for your full HDD...that's ridiculous.
Not even asking for a HDD space checker, just a line of code for checking the game's own function.
F4 doesn't tell you anything if the save was failed or not, if the file was created or not....
How does the cloud work btw, I remember quickly running out of space there as well, that's why I disabled, because it was trying to sync my 10s of gbs of files...
I believe the sync runs once you close the game... or does it run in the background to upload saves during gameplay?
Can I set it to, say, sync the last 10 files or so?

You seem to be in the habit or "running out of space" whether it be locally or cloud based. Perhaps investment in a larger HDD or better monitoring and disk maintenance is in order on your part.
With that, my argument remains...
How often do you check the gas gauge in your car or do you blindly drive around not knowing how much gas you have? What if the amber light that is supposed to warn you of low gas breaks...are you going to blame that too?
Don't rely on others to safeguard you for information you should already know.
This is in fact how I knew, when the game eventually crashed to dekstop.
I got 6x 2TB drives and 2 500GB m.2 NVMes. Fallout happens to save on my documents which on one of the m.2s....
I also like to keep as many of saves I can. Currently I have 50+ GBs of saves from my current playthrough... I do occasionally clean up my saves and only keep the milestones. But in this case I forgot to check on it recently...
Still, it would've been "proper" if Fallout.exe warned me about the saves are not being created properly.
Bethesda is Bethesda, but I wish at least there was some kind of a mod to fix this, I searched but couldn't find any.
I think you need to be more proactive is all I'm saying.
Finally, 6 hours isn't all that bad. I've gone longer than that and for some reason, in Survival, couldn't get to or find a bed (my fault) and then died.
That's just sad and makes the thread even worse. I have a 1TB SSD...that's it. And never come close to filling it due to...drum roll...active maintenance.
You know there's this thing called internet and it's full of similar kinds of complaints ever since Oblivion 3... Just saying...
Are you guys bethesda employees or fan boys?! Blaming the user all time and stuff...
My statement is valid. A game should check, if it properly saved progress into a file or not.
Period.
