Easier scrapping?
I've been searching the mods on Nexus and I can't find something I'm looking for.
I find it absolutely crazy that you have to literally drop everything on the ground, and then manually select each and every object, and then confirm you want to scrap it. Is there seriously no easier way to do this? Like in the inventory of the bench, just having a single press button to crap stuff? (Also, is this just VR? Or is normal FO4 like this too?)

I'm not looking for mods to add more junk or anything, I just want an easier way to scrap the junk I have, rather than throwing it all over the ground and manually selecting each piece.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

I use the workshop junk grinder mod, https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23328
Weapons and armour still need to be done on the ground or at an appropriate workbench.

If you have the Contraptions Workshop DLC, there is also the Manufacturing Extended mod[www.nexusmods.com]. It adds a scrapping machine (for junk) as well as other things like an auto-butcher and robot disassembler machine to get ride of bodies. It adds some other functions as well, and there is another mod that build off of that one (Manufacturing Extended Expanded) that adds more functions.

Armor, weapons, and clothing would still need to be scrapped manual. A machine for those is harder to do, as the scrap you get is variable based on modifications and level in the Scrapper perk.

The regular game doesn't bother with making scrapping junk items simpler because it already automatically scraps them when you try to build/craft something.

Oh for real? I hadn't noticed that. So if I have a bunch of stuff that makes steel, but I have zero steel, if I try to make something out of steel it automatically scraps the stuff to make it? Does it then store the additional stuff from the scrapping that I didn't use?

Yes. The only benefits of pre-scrapping your junk items is that it is easier to transport materials, and you get a clear picture of just what resources you have available (you can also get this information by loading all the junk into your inventory, then switching to component view in the Junk tab of your Pip-boy).

It does only apply to junk items, however. If you want to scrap a weapon, piece of clothing, or some armor for parts, you have to do that yourself with either the benches, or by dropping it on the ground in a settlement and scrapping it in build mode.

Yes.
Does your 'yes' also apply to Jon's second question?
Because I read somewhere that excess junk parts from auto-scrapped items do not get stored and actually vanish.

I already have so much junk that I mostly don't care anymore, but in early game and for certain materials you probably don't want to waste any remains. (e.g. crystal, oil)

I can't say whether it always works perfectly for everyone, but it routinely does store the additional items.

Many is the time I've built something at a workbench using junk items in my inventory and gathered the leftover materials form where they turned up in the workbench. It's more noticeable when you're using a workbench that isn't in a settlement, since the extras aren't being dumped into a huge pile of existing material.
