Problem with perception
I'm having trouble with my perception in the Game, i thought it was that -1 Bug and you fix it with console commands but that doesn't work

what happens is My perk chart says i have 5 Perception, but my pip boy says i have 4, 1 less then i actually do

when i use console commands player.setav perception 5, it stays at 4 on the pip boy

if i set it to let's say -10 or -1 it will stay at 1 and no lower

when i put on clothing that gives me 1 perception lets say it give me it but there's no + on it

but if i put it on and take chems then it shows the + with any number

what is going on? and is there a way to fix this?

You can't have negative status. Are you playing at survival? Maybe some disease or something give you a debuff which decrease your perception. The chart will show you your original status, even with diseases.

A perk buff from a food, clothing mod or other source, will not show up on the perk chart and can not be counted as buff to get a required perk within that perk chart for selection.

Don't play with the console next time.

i thought it was that -1 Bug and you fix it with console commands but that doesn't work

I'm not even sure what this means or what you did but you almost certainly screwed it up yourself.

if i set it to let's say -10 or -1 it will stay at 1 and no lower

Why would you even do this? Did you reload to saves before you screwed with the console or just assumed you couldn't do permanent damage and baked it right into your save?

There was a bug listed a long while back about being crippled in the head sometimes causing a perception bug the fix was the command.

player.modav perception "number you desire, in my case my default was 5 so I wrote 5"

The setav command sets the base perception or other stat while the modav command changes the stat by adding the number used in this case I would suggest 1 as the fix came from someone who actually had -1 as their bugged perception and you stated yours is just one below what it should be. Though you may need to do the setav back to 5 if not reloading a save before trying the negative numbers.

modav should not be used on SPECIAL stats. setav will prevent issues with stats/perks.

When trying to fix a bug like

"what happens is My perk chart says i have 5 Perception, but my pip boy says i have 4, 1 less then i actually do

when i use console commands player.setav perception 5, it stays at 4 on the pip boy"

where setav fails the only option is modav which the game actually uses itself on the specials as part of its debuff effects and is possibly why the bug exists one of these failed to reset to the base stat when it wore off leaving a permanent modav of -1 or subtract one from the perception stat.

So since the perk chart is already wrong (+1) I suppose using modav to +1 could set it right?

Still, once you FUBAR your stats with the console there is often no simple solution.

The bug was stated as the perk chart showing 5 while the stats show only 4 this usually means that a debuf of -1 did not proprly return the perception to its base stat of 5.

modav does not change the perk chart it changes the currant actual perception shown in the stats window of the pipboy.

So the command player.modav perception 1 will make the stats match the perk chart displaying 5

I will agree that if not done carefully and within the base stats range of 1 to 10 one can cause all sorts of issues I recall one thread where someone tried to set a special to something like 999 and that defiantly did.

so doing modav will be safe to fix the issue? as logn as i don't go over 10?

Even if you want, you can go over 10 and less than 1. Don't existe 11 percepetion or -1 perception. If you use commands, you probably broken that, i keep think you just get some issue like disease or negative status which make your perception dicrease. Just go to your pipboy and in EST type Q to see if you really don't have any debuff. Using commands whitout know about them could make some serious danger, one time on Skyrim I had about 3 Lydia's walking around in Whiterun for using place at me instead of moveto.

No. For, you see, according to Master Ryûken : "Power without perception is virtually useless and therefore of no true value!"

Good luck in the Wasteland, hero.
