Try changing your pc sound to 48000Hz. It may not help, but some older games seem to bork sounds or channels when audio is set higher.

What the hell is it about earrape that makes it so laugh inducing and enjoyable? Its so dumb and shouldn't be funny but it is.

This is usually caused by low-end audio hardware (i.e. cheap on-board sound chips) and/or the audio driver not being able to handle a large variety of audio formats. I am using a dedicated audio card, which can deal with anything up to 32-bit 192kHz sample rate and the hardware can resample about any rate. I then use the manufacturer's audio drivers. I have never seen this audio issue myself and can only speculate as to why some people are having this issue.

You can try to go into the audio settings of Windows and check the properties of the output device. It should be set to 16- or 24-bit at 48kHz.

Also avoid switching audio devices while playing a game. I.e. switching from internal audio to a Bluetooth device or HDMI audio. Especially when these devices themselves have different default audio formats and are being switch while a game is running can this confuse games.

Some versions of Windows are also missing the Media Feature Pack, which contains the Windows Media Player, but also a variety of audio libraries:

Try to install the manufacturer's latest audio drivers over the Windows default drivers.
