Can't romance companion

I've asked this before, but most of the answers were just sarcastic, so lets see if I can get some proper help this time.

I have the romance option for Piper. I have done for sometime now. She idolises me, my charisma is maxed, and so is the lady killer. Yet each time I use the romance option it fails. I must have failed this about 50 times by now. Now initially this annoyed me, but I'm not so fussed about romancing her now. The main reason I'm asking is because every damn time I travel with her she says "sO yOu rEmEmbEr tHaT stUFF i sAiD aBOUt yOU bEinG mY oNly fRiEnD? diD tHAT sOunD nUTS?" So is there anyway for me to romance her, so she stops repeating herself all the time?

Charisma is already maxed dude

you get the option when She talks to you, same for all companions that you max out and not romance, its a coloured flirt type chat option

Yes, I have the option, but every time I do it the persuasion attempt fails.

then with console open click piper and type getav CA_affinity it should be 1k if maxed if not you pissed her off and have to get it back there

Try use grape mentas, day a tripper and x-cell to boost charisma for temporary. Might be increasing chance success speak check.

Something like this doesn't usually happen, especially when you have your charisma maxed and Piper is at max affinity with you.
So the first question I'm going to ask of you is this:

Do you have any mods installed?
If not, did you have any mods before?

Because:
The only thing I can think of that might be causing your problem is perhaps a mod conflict.

Nope, I've never installed any mods. I wouldn't even know how to go about installing mods.

Nope, I've never installed any mods. I wouldn't even know how to go about installing mods.

Alright. At least we can eliminate that cause.
I don't know how far along you have gone since the first time the romance option came up.
So going on that, you'll need to do some work.

Have you verified your game files?
If no, do so now.
If yes, go on to the next step.

Did you try to load a previous save? (in spite of your progress).
If not:
Set a hard "Save Game" point where you're at now.
This way, you can come back to it later.

Next, exit to the main menu and load previous saves one at a time until the speech check succeeds.

If and when it succeeds, that means something went wrong sometime later on that mucked up getting into the romance with Piper.

You'll have to decide if you want to go back to that point and negate any progress since then. If you do, then just keep going on from that point and it will eventually overwrite your latest hard save.

You said you don't want to romance her now - have you tried the other speech options, like telling her she's nuts? I got one companion to stop asking me by consistently being rude.

Yeah, since making this post I tried the "don't get mushy" option, and once she said it again, I got the "enough" option. She said she won't bring it up again, so fingers crossed she won't 🤞🏻
