Sniper Rifle vs Hunting Rifle.
Is there any real difference between the guns? They seem pretty similar. Also, why the hell is there no info on the actual sniper rifle? When looking through google all I can find is hunting rifle, combat rifle and assault rifle. Even on the wiki there was no info about the sniper rifle in fallout 4.

If it was a semi auto or auto weapon. Then it's a completely different story.

The Hunting Rifle and the Sniper Rifle are the same weapon. It is merely the difference in weapon mods that turn one into the other.

It's same exact weapon.
It's just a name change with certain weapon modifications installed.

The modern looking body, is that a mod too then?

Yea it's the Marksman stock.
You can inspect the weapon in your Pip Boy for what mods it has installed.

Ah, thanks. I spent like 20 minutes looking for the sniper rifle online. :P

:D no problem.

Yeah that was one of those disappointing lack of diversity in weapons things they did with the mod system that putting scopes on stuff means its a sniper rifle.

I actually think it's pretty diverse. But I've only played Fallout 3 before, maybe the other games have more variety.

If you use mods then you might want to take a look at Better Mod Descriptions.

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4760

It gives you more detailed descriptions of whats weapon mods do.

I like how the mod system handles it for the most part. It's just disappointing that most mods like muzzle brakes and stocks do absolutely nothing for it.

Thought they reduced recoil?

They do but recoil reducion on a bolt action rifle is pretty pointless in this game.
The sight doesn't veer off that much for it to be a problem. On automatic or even some semi automatic weapons that kick like a mule yea compensators and recoil compensating stocks help.

But for Hunting Rifle go with no muzzle attatchments for extra range or Supressor for stealth sniper build cause it both silences the weapon and provides considerable recoil reduction.

They do, but some people expect more noticeable results like a muzzle that deals double damage or shoots rainbow beams.

Fair point, didn't really think about that to be honest. I just picked whatever was best. Wanted to max out my pretty new gun.

I find that the 'best' parts for a hunting rifle involve the long light barrel, short stock, suppressor and either a reflex sight (if the gun is for VATS use) or short scope.
