What does the outline color mean when scrapping items in the workshop?
I've noticed that when I'm in the workshop and I'm walking around looking at items and scrapping them, some of them are outlined in orange and others are outlined in blue. What does the outline color mean?

Green (never seen blue, so I assume this is what you mean. Though I think you can change the HUD color, and that may affect it.) means you can store it in the workshop to place later, or move it around. Yellow/orange means all you can do is scrap it.

I'm not sure exactly what those specific colours mean (I assume it shifts if you change the interface colours), but there's usually a difference in the outline colour between objects that you can move around and objects that you can only scrap.

For example, a section of picket fence you can simply scrap or instead drag elsewhere would be outlined in one colour, while a tree that you can only scrap would be the other.

It is possible to trick the game into letting you grab and move an unmovable object by button spamming while selecting and storing an object in front of it, but that's just due to the game being fudgy with its selections.

I've never changed HUD colors but for me the default is blue. Thanks for the info

Hmm, weird. It's green (movable) and yellow (unmovable) for me. Are you in power armour, maybe?

Nope. I like sneaking and sniping. Muffled, light armor and high-powered recon rifles with suppressors. I see orange and blue.

Blue outline on junk means items you have marked it to be searched for as in a junk item you need. So it will highlight them in blue. It can happen if you tried to make something and did not have the items and then you select it to be searched for.

You can also manually apply this to any junk item by pressing c when in junk sub menu to view component and then press q to mark these items. It will put a magnifying glass symbol next to those items and it also makes them easier to find on vendors.

Edit: in case someone asks this is part of the vanilla game, not any mods as I currently do not play with any mods at all.
