Make sure to have an account with bethesda.net where you can get Fallout shelter for the freakin PC and the Geck. You really should check out Nexus.com for the mods. Make an account, it's free. Just use the option below. There is True Storms which is a weather mod, Resurrection Forest edition. It's a 2GB mod that severly increases the vegitation of FO4 but make sure to have a powerful desktop to use it. You have to find this mod by yourself on the internet, banned from Nexus. Nexus has a few thousand awesome mods waiting for you to explore. Modern Firearms add tons of new weapons, armor, ammo, crafting gear, jetpack, etc which is on Bethesda.net. Spend a few hours looking through Nexus to see what you like and make sure to download the Nexus Mod Manager. How experienced are you with computers? Modding does get pretty technical.
There are thousands of good mods. We must let the newcommer search for the mods on his own.
# Please do not modify this file.
*console.esp (I ONLY use this to do the showlooksmenu on npcs so the look awsome, its easier than use the construction kit and more accurate)

The # are done myself and are trash clean up or settler and npc requipping using vanilla gear. Or removing dirt from settlers faces or making ghouls humans and other personal preferences. Sanctuary bridge repair and other extremely easy things to do with the construction kit. Sometimes combining 5 or 8 mods into one by just doing it myself with construction kit.
I also use bodyslide and quite a few texture replacers and quite a few clothing mods where I use the mesh dropped into vanilla folders for replacers.
Other must haves are:
UI remover/replacer
Exp gain sound remover and lvl up sound replacer.
(I have an amazing lvl up sound replacer where a cyberpunk chic says to check stats on the pip boy in a cool way, forget exactly what she says, I tried looking for it again on nexus mods and cant find it, same with my limited edition pipboy texture replacer)
Radio music replacers(the enviroment music is quite good and doesnt need replacing)

My personal favorites are changing companion appearance, CBBE, True Storms, Eyes of Beauty, WET, 4k pipboy, 2k power armor, the skytim power armor (which I maintain is lore friendly), AWKCR, Full Dialogue, the unofficial patch, Enhanced Blood, Legendary mods, Longer Power Lines, power armor power usage mods, commonwealth shorts and scrap everything.
Thats should get ya started.
unofficial patch
tales from the wasteland, which has Birdie the companion (I don't like companions in FO4 but I take him everywhere with me. So entertaining)
atomic radio
More Uniques
The game quickly become tedious and no challenge so I would add :
Union of Independent Federations (New Deadly Faction Mod) pc edition
and:
Deadly Raiders of the commonwealth, and the gunner, ghoul, triggermen and so on mods.
Really just adding guns that I enjoy adds a ton to the game. My 3 favorite right now are:

That's what I would start with as my own personal must haves and then as I was playing I would add more as I went.
Lots of great mods that are a lot of fun are out there, thanks to the great and creative modders.
I got a music converter on Nexus mods and convert my favourite cyberpunk type music to the .xwm the game uses.
I dont use this one because I already use it for my Mechwarrior Online playlist I play when im playing that game but its a good example in a way.

Music or texture replacing is super easy. Just get the file extractor from nexus and extract the sound then drag and drop the full diamond city radio folder and associated folders up to the data folder into the fallout game folder(delete anything your not replacing) and then replace the music by making any music an .xwm file and renaming it to whats in the diamond city radio folder, insta good tunes in Fallout 4. No mod needed.
