Building Vault 88 is terrible...
WTEHFLUX... Cant get any pieces to snap together. Using the Atram pieces with the common/utitlity/housing peices is impossible.
The game was released on the pretense of building a vault and yet, its so damn tedious and broken!
FIX TEH FUXING GAME ALREADY... seriously, whom ever coded that should be fired. Its a total mess of incompatability.
And the lack of space... Didnt anyone check the area pre-release to see if the boundaries lined up?.. Also, why do i have to place my nuka cola machines, lockers, and other items 5 feet from a wall due to some large boudary arround said object? It looks terrible having a line of shelves and then the nuka machine sticking way out because it cant be placed near a wall.. as one example.
UGH i could go on and on.. wtflux simply..

Had to rant, this is the 5th vault Ive worked on and i'll be g'damned the snapping bit is so broken.

Learn to use console commands (Modpos x, y or z) to manipulate the different vault pieces. Open console, click on item, type 'modpos z 100' and it will move. Most of the times you can snap two pieces together but can't snap a third piece to them; atrium sections are notorious for having this issue. Use console commands to temporarily move one of the first two pieces away (move at least 100 positions away), snap the third and then move the other piece back with the console. Modpos z moves stuff up and down, modpos x or y moves them laterally or vertically. That is how I 'skin that cat'.

No, i shouldnt have to use console commands to play a game that should of been polished before release.
The game should of been tested and optimized before it hit the shelves.
Its a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disgrase how these game companies are getting away with selling us broken ♥♥♥♥.
If i were a lawyer i'd sue the pants off them for selling broken, unpolished, untested products.

It does suck. It's the biggest lot in the game and yet the majority of it is all seperated by tiny tunnels, making most areas useless.

My tips:
1: First, go through and clear EVERYTHING. Find the uranium mines, clear every single piece of clutter, because otherwise you won't have enough builing budget to do anything.

2: The "Vault Power Conduit" in the connector's and switches section is necessary. If you connect 2 VPCs via normal wires, you can carry vault power through even the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ little tunnels into other areas, if need be.

3: The Rooms section seems useless at first, but in the end of the Domestic section, you'll see an Endcap which connects Atrium pieces to Room pieces.

4: Consider not building a vault. The tiny tunnels and lack of space or ease of building (Snapping Atrium ceilings just does not work 50% of the time) means if you do not SPECIFICALLY design a specific vault (Forgetting mods of console commands to cheat it), you can't make a proper vault. Consider the VAST amounts of PERFECTLY flat dirt, the free 150 power unit, and the massive water generators. Just build a town. Make a bunch of small individual buildings like you would outside the vault, and use the VPC and wires to power them all.

What really p@sses me off is for a game of 'building vaults' there is litteraly 0 space. You drop a few walls and floors and poof, the games tells ya.. nope, not going to do it, im so over bloated i dont want you to place any more pieces".
This is a total crock of sh%t.
I may look into hiring a lawyer. I was lied too about the game, told 'HEY CHECK ME OUT, NEW FALLOUT AND YOU CAN BUILD STUFF!!" .. which you really cant. Due to bugs, game glitches and poor coding and programing.
Its so simplistic and idiotic its absurd to say the least.
Hardy any items to build with cept walls and a few decorations..
i can go on and on about how lame this turned out.
I admit it has a wonderful story, BUT the selling point is 'building' .. and you cant do that.

for those of you who complained about the settlement building, here is something to make settlement building look excellent. as mentioned above, the vault space is impossible to connect everything. Those tunnels....i have been using concrete and vault pieces to link the vault to the tunnels. The post that suggests just making a town seems to be sound advice. Except i would say making a mini vault near the premade vault might make a nice little diversion.

Then don't use them. I am just trying to help you deal with the current reality that Vault 88 is bugged....and probably won't get fixed. If you want to bulid a vault (not an undeground settlement) then using console commands is one way that I have found works well enough.

Or download a mod that does the same thing but much better.

Vault 88 mega build connects everything. From the back corner of the pumphouse 'lake' room out the front door of the vault, in uninterrupted vault parts.

The whole building mechanics suck imo. You can build some great stuff and i spent many hours having fun just building settlements/vaults but you spend more time fighting against the building mechanic then actually building. 3/4 of the time pieces won't fit/clip together or an invisible item will prevent you from placing whatever you want where ever you want. Still fun but take it with a grain of salt or install mods.

lol people build great settlements all the times, look on youtube. maybe dont put in minimal effort and expect maximum results. making things looks good and cool takes hours and that goes for every game that has base/town building.
Knight Siegfried Oct 29, 2016 @ 7:19pm
I love building stuff, especially forified bases. My favorite is the Red Rocket station nearby Vault 111.

*shrug* works for me. Ok, mostly. I admit to an unhealthy level of needing to fiddle with atrium parts, particularly in corners... but I've got a perfectionist streak and tend to stop halfway through a run across the Vault because I just noticed I didn't get a light centered.

I ignored the tunnels and built all the way around and up through the back wall entrance. Tunnel use is limited to a concrete storage room for the main atrium trading shop (didn't want to waste the space) with an emergency exit into the tunnel, and an emergency exit from the reactor room I placed in the area next to the pumphouse. Yes, there's a large area in the side room off the tunnels (I think that's where it is) that can't be tied in, but I have plans to concrete the hell out of that area as a rather third-world looking prison complex (because every vault has it's dark secrets).

Old video of quick runthrough right after I got the link and some exploratory building into the pumphouse through the back room:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbww3H9ilqQ

Actually starts at 1:50, it was only the second time I've used the streaming software and it's clunky. Pardon the frame rate too, the game's ok by itself but the streamer starts asking a little much of my poor nearly-potato PC.

No mods, by the way. Anything you see that isn't bone-stock standard buildable was spawned and aligned by console command only, which does *not* include any of the vault parts. If it's a vault part, it was snapped into position. And maybe realigned once or twice once I learned the tricks and traps... but only using vanilla build mode.

The people I watch on youtube that build impressive settlements, such as EvilViking, have admitted that the building system is really bad. The people you watch probably don't show you the full process on youtube when making a settlement in this game. It's not easy, no matter your skill. It's not the player's fault, it's the game.

look at the post above yours, And it seems Evilviking still manages to make good settlements regaurdless. again, put in the work and you will get results in return. I dont see how this is a hard concept to grasp, maybe the people complaining are too used to playing fallout shelter that actual work is asking too much from them.

I like the building system. I spend hours perfecting a fortress or town. I do use mods so it increase that time by a lot. I know a lot of people who want to be spoon fed everything and not have to work for themselves then call the game ♥♥♥♥ for not holding their hands the entire time.
