You only need a Bethesda account to access Creation Club mods, or ask questions on their forums. You don't need one to play the game. And there is only solo play in F4, There's no multiplayer.

You do not need a Bethesda account to look at the Creation Club. It will use your Steam ID. There is something free each week.
You do need one to use their forums.

They used Bethesda net accounts linked with Steam to view CC or use the ingame mod browser.

Did that change to just Steam id now or what?

Oh, I didn't know. I have never used the Creation Club, so I assumed they were separate.

The CC and ingame bethesda mods are greyed out and not able to be selected unless we log into a bethesda account. However to just play the game a bethesda account is not needed.

I have only had to log into it if I wanted to see the cc items, ingame betesdanet mods, or install the creation kit from the bethesda launcher for making mods for the game.

There is a very nice mod that just disables the whole creation club and advertisements.

Blocking Fo4 in firewall does same thing too.

I started playing 4? years ago. Before the CC was created. I never made a Bethesda account and I have always been able to access the CC. I was prompted to make a Bethesda account for the CC when it first appeared but I never did.

Not for me. I can access both. And I have always been able to select MODS from the initial install. Maybe yours is different because you did make a Bethesda account and the game knows it, so you must use it?

Hmm wait now i remember it was Skyrim SE that asked me to register a Bethesda account to access CC when i wanted the free survival mode promotion.

I assumed since i already had a Beth net account with linked Steam thats why i could view CC in Fo4 without loging in.

When the bethesda.net account fails to login for whatever reason the CC and Mod options are greyed out selecting them results in a request for me to create an account.

Of course if I did that it would cause all kinds of issues since I already have one.

As far as I know on the issue anyone with our without a bethesda.net account will have the game attempt to log into one when they select the option that requires having one. The automatic login into bethesda.net upon launching the game may only happen if we have created one and linked it to the steam account I am not that familier with how they actually handle that process.
