How do i install presets in F4.
I'm using looksmenu, cbbe, and bodyslide. The file does not appear in the correct folder. Manual putting it there also does not work. I'm 24 hours further, still nothing. I'm about to give up on modding, or my rig ends up through the window on the street. Had this with SSE to. I just need with my ocd a step to step tut. I'm desperate. Anything else looks like 4K, totaly new. But presets nah, always a problem.

Before you do that: presets do not replace any faces in the original scrolling list. You need to open them in LooksMenu hotkey. There they will appear as a list.

If you are unsure about folder structure, then check it yourself.
- Create any character in game.
- Store as LooksMenu preset.
- Quit game and very that folder path for the mod you are trying to install is same with the preset you just made.

THX for the tip. Sometimes you just need a puzzle piece. I will try this later on, before i mess it up. When i mentioned 24 hours, i meant 24 without sleep. I'm gonna take a nap. I let you know if it works later on. CYA and THX again.
C:\F4modding tools\MO2\overwrite\F4SE\plugins\F4EE\Presets
F4modding tools is the name i gave for the folder. So under MO2 and further.
Still nothing, only gives me the presets for the face i made. Not the body. Also have a problem with xml and json files. I think i am gonna dump looksmenu. Did not have it in SSE either.

You tried dropping them directly in the game install folder, not your mod manager's?

Should go here: SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\F4SE\Plugins\F4EE\Presets

I use Looksmenu, that's the way I go for presets and they work alright

THX gonna try this. But i also followed Ilja's tip. And then did a search on my rig. I found the file. A JSON file. But the presets are all in XML. So i need a converter or patience and just type over the value's. THX for the tip. The problem is, i do have it under my MO2 folder not the steam library. Not my fault, i just followed a very good recommented tutorial.

OK, before you go crazy looking at every single tutorial on the web, I'd like to make a couple of things perfectly clear:

1. ALL LooksMenu presets must be located in Data/F4SE/Plugins/F4EE/Presets

2. ALL BodySlide presets must be located in Data/Tools/BodySlide/SliderPresets

If your mod manager isn't dropping them there, then they're NOT going to be seen by LooksMenu or BodySlide and therefore will NOT work.

Now here's the problem. A lot of presets on Nexus are NOT built with the proper file structure in the archive (see 1 and 2 ABOVE). As a result, your mod manager, whether it be NMM, Vortex or MO2, doesn't know where to put the file so it will just dump them into your DATA folder. If you're "missing" presets, there's a 99.9999999999999% chance that's where you'll find them. Just move them manually to the locations I gave above.

XML files will be BodySlide files, JSON files will be LooksMenu files.

Whenever you download a preset, whether it be for BodySlide or LooksMenu, you should get into the habit of always clicking on "Preview File Contents" BEFORE you download. If you don't see those file paths I listed above, your mod manager will NOT know where to put them so you should download and install them MANUALLY.

There's no harm in installing presets manually. Everything else should be handled by a mod manager if possible.

Disclaimer: No XML or JSON files were harmed in the creation of this message.

THX, i found one that looks like Tig. I believe she looks lore friendly. If you know who Tig is. Lets try it out.
Still nothing, could you maybe give me a langer path. For 1 and 2, from C: on maybe. I gonna re-install everything in reverse. I put the correct path names in place. And then, it's gonna be a clean install of everything. When i get an overwrite warning, then i can adjust it to my liking. THX for the help.

That depends on where you have Steam installed. If you've accepted the DEFAULT install location, your game will be located in:

C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Fallout 4/

BTW, installing Steam in Program File (x86) or Program Files is really not a good idea since Windows UAC can interfere with the running of some games and the installation of mods. I usually create a folder on one or more of my OTHER drives name it "Steam on D", "Steam on E" etc etc etc, and install the Steam app and games there.

You can either move the game install location through Steam or try running the game and your mod manager as ADMIN. This might be your issue.

I got it on an SSD under steamlibrary, program files is nowhere to be found. And thx, i now know, not just to copy the exe and 2 dll files to the F4 folder as said in an tut. But also the rest.
So i installed it according to 5 different tutorials. Everytime, i have read the descriptions on the nexus. I have installed manualy, and through MO2. And even both and partial. It does not work. And by the looks and reads on reddit, it seems to work less and less for more people.
