Vortex vs Mod Organiser 2
I'm about to start a new FO4 playthrough. Which mod manager is the best to use?

I disagree with Ilja here and that is indeed a rare thing. Vortex has advanced functions that let you do what Ilja says you cannot. You can manage archives and load order manually. But by experience Vortex just takes care of it for you.

Feel free to disagree with my. My opinions are just my own.

I should mention that I am actually using Vortex to mod certain other games. While Vortex is very advanced, I feel it is lacking functions that I am very much used for modding.

The issue that I feel with Vortex is exactly the fact that it tries to hold user's hand, which means that it does not educate the user at all. It is sort of a dad that tries to do homework for his son.

Which is why I got majorly frustrated with Vortex, when I encountered issues. It does explain that you have conflicts, but it is not MO2, where i can see them all on one look, without the need for mod manager to especially warm me about them. Hiding, reordering (etc.) if far easier with MO2.

But let me underline words: for me. It is easier for me and not necessarily others.

I can easily see why many other people like working with Vortex, while I am waiting for MO2 devs to release plugins for new games. I am back at managing even Cyberpunk 2077 mods with MO2, because I had enough about working with Vortex - again.

Both mod managers come well endorsed and I can actually endorse both of them. Things that make me grind with Vortex are likely features that others find useful. And other way around. Things I love with MO2 are likely things that others might find tedious.

We have two brilliant mod managers, doing same things in their own ways. Variety is a good thing. :RoflOwlcat:

If you just want to play the game using mods then I suggest Vortex, however if you want to develop your own mods probably go for MO2.

Oh yeah, both mod managers are pretty much well regarded which is why I've been so split xD My hats goes to all of you who didnt turn this discussion into one similar to "Xbox Vs Playstation" dumbster fire. I'll add my own opinion whenever I can have a proper one on this topic.

Thank you beautiful peoples, feel free to continue this discution, I certainly wont be the only one that will have that dilemma and be looking for some insights.

you can use both just don't download the same mods at the same time.

if you can't decide just download the zip, xml, rar, esp, ♥♥♥♥ what else.....exe....♥♥♥♥ idk you get the idea; files directly and just move them to your fallout.

I'm familliar with modding, but it dates to 5 years ago when fallout 4 released. I stopped playing the modded games because I ended up spending more time on updating/testing mods than actually playing the game. It looks like I've missed out a lot of drama, especially like when the creation club got (sorry for the expression) forced into people's throat. Anyway, now it feels like a good time to fiddle with the mods again

I remember using MO2 on an older Potato computer. But you can't run fallout 4 on a potato.
When I got a real computer I installed vortext. Is Vortex better than MO2? Beats me! But more people use it and:
1) I'm a sheep that goes with the herd.
2) There's more people to ask questions when I screw up like Switched from FO4 to Skyrim and then back to FO4 which totally hosed FO4. (solution; delete everything and start over)

I did not even know about MO2, just looked up how to mod and went with Vortex, late starter a month ago, its just so easy to use and any conflicts it gives you the option on what to load first or last, I have had zero issues with it and have over 100 now, the main thing is read all the info about the mod you want to install and what it does as one mod can lead to another mod and so on, yeah got sucked in :)

word of advice since you just started if your using script extender or any mods that rely on it take measures to block updates because they will brake your mods and game and fallout 4 is supposed to get some sort of update soonish.

and make a back up of the files, set your app manifest to read only, and your steam setting to "update on launch". the 2nd and last ones only applies if your launching through F4SE.

we have no idea when the update will be, but it's supposed to be this early? this year. best to prepare now imo.

Thanks both already have done that, except the back up which will do when I can, I never even put the last update on as figured it was basically bloatware for a little improvement in performance from Beth.
