Strange issues with fallout 4 environment mods. Are these mods broken now?
was doing a playthrough of whispering hills for awhile from the nexus website, decided to switch over to the winter overhaul mod and textures were not loading in, you can see the snow in the distance but as you get closer it would disappear, I decided to then switch over to the fallout 4 seasons winter mod and that mod did not work either, strangely enough. I went through the trouble of verifying the files getting rid of all my mods and doing a fresh reinstall along with a new game to test out the environment mods and the same issue persists, no snow on the ground and no visible changes tested two other mods one of which was the summer mod variant and still saw no visible changes, I also tested out one last mod which was the desperados overhaul which worked with flying colors....

So I honestly do not know what is going on with the landscape mods I made sure that there would be no conflicts and made sure to install the mods correctly. Not only that I am all out of ideas of what I can do to get the landscape overhaul mods to work. never seen this issue before either which only adds to my confusion/frustration. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I could post a load order if requested of my mod list setup.

My current PC specs are:
RTX 2060 6GB
AMD Ryzen 5 3600xt
16 Gigs Of Ram.

that wouldn't have anything to do with the game being up to date would it? if that is the case that could explain why some mods work and some wont.

Whispering hills is incompatible with any weather mods.
It says on the description page, the weather mods work okay if you follow instructions.

I've uninstalled whispering hills altogether, I've only mentioned it as a reference to an overhaul that worked until I started having issues. It was after the fact that I uninstalled it and then moved on to trying to mod in a winter landscape overhaul is where I've had issues trying to change the environment. I've completed my playthrough for whispering hills and uninstalled it for a hardcore winter survival playthrough instead.

Did you start a new game? If you uninstall a mod then save games become corrupted with unattached scripts therefore causing a lot of problems.

Winter overhaul needs a specific way to be installed, follow the instructions thta the author has put. It will mean a re-install of Fallout 4 if you wish to unistall it.
You could try this https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/43186?tab=posts with "Winter Overhaul".

Ayup made sure to start a new game, definitely looked at what was required to run it. they mentioned specifically to not have darker nights or vivid weather, just as so it will not conflict with the winter mod itself. Winter weathers are working just fine i'm getting the full on blizzard effects and everything. Just no snow except what you can see in the distance.

To help provide a better picture of what is going on here are some public screenshots I just recently posted to show what exactly what I am seeing to help narrow down what is causing the issue. sometimes a visual reference speaks for itself.

I am also experiencing the same, if not very very similar issues from this mod I have also tested out.

not only just the winter variant but other season variants.

Are you sure you completely uninstalled whispering hills? No loose files left if the mod had any?
Dave Feb 4, 2021 @ 11:24am
Do you have any other mods such as "place anywhere", scrapping mods or NAC?

Always
1) check the date the mod was created/released.
2) read its description completely.
3) read the posts about it if the site you get them from allows such posts.

This should give you all the information on if the mod is still working under the most recent version of the game or if they will conflict with another mod that does something similar or that changes the map in some way that is not compatible with other mods that edit the same cell.

I did a complete reinstall of the game. It fixed everything. I had a suspicion that one of my old mods that I downloaded/tried out had loose files somewhere along the way. Only way I came to that conclusion was tirelessly looking through forum after forums and found something involving deleting textures in order to let the mods do their thing. Sure enough textures finally started showing up but deleting the textures led some errors and only to find that exteriors of buildings now are pink/purple, definitely an error. So yhea reinstalling everything turned out to be the right choice. downside is that i'll likely be spending the rest of the afternoon working on re-modding the game but hey at least it is fixed now! :D

I suppose the moral of the story is to reinstall the game if you come across issues like I did...

A lot of times you may be able to get by with deleteing the textures directory, validating the game files, and reinstalling the mods you want to keep to be sure all the required files for them are still present. Though if the mod added other loose files in meshes etc. that would only be a partial fix.

A lot of times depending on how one installs/removes mods loose files can get left behind short of looking at the mods contents and manually deleting each file (that would be a headach if it was a large mod) there is no real way to be certain all the added files are removed.
