Doors not working, bullets not doing any damage, is this melee March???

I had to fight a Legendary Deathclaw Matriarch with a Super Sledge hammer. It was a fun fight, but something is definitely broken here. I haven't seen any other posts regarding this issue so is it only me??? That thing was stalking me for a few days. I had no armor but the Silver Shroud costume. She picked me up and squeezed me several times but I kept hitting ROFL!!!!!

I killed the Red Death with my Harvester's Friend. None of my guns would do any damage at all. ????? I'm over it now, I can take out entire Pack or Disciples gangs with just the sledge and the little buzzy thing. Fascinating!!!

Various firearm mods out there will reset gun DMG to zero or close to zero after you uninstall them, unless you start a completely new game.

Depends on your level and the difficulty setting. If you have no perks in firearms, then you will notice very little or maybe no damage, as the enemy can have high resistance. Some are certainly resistant to some types of damage.

I understand all about the different damage types by now, this is something completely new. I don't understand about gun mods being reset to zero. I doesn't seem to matter at this time as I am able to defeat all foes with the sledge hammer.

Also, regarding doors not opening, the National Guard Training Yard is a prime example. One of my eyebots scanned a load of ceramic behind the locked doors which I can only get at by using one of the terminals also behind a locked door. Moments ago I went through the first set of doors. They opened fine, the next set to allow me access to the terminal would not open at all. Then I tried to go out the way I came in and the door would not open, trapping me inside. Luckily I was able to transport out!!! Also, while doing the Eddie Winter quest, I was not able to get into some of the police stations to use the terminals and get the holotapes. One of the tapes was on a filing cabinet and there was no take symbol. The marker was above it but I could not take it!!! ???

Maybe this is a result of trapping Preston Garvey inside a house in Sanctuary Hills!!! I waited for him to go in and sit down, then I patched the whole place up with walls, trapping him inside. I can go there from time to time and look at him trapped inside the building through the windows that he cannot escape from. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Having fun now!!! Got Preston for being so mean to me!!!!!!!!! I mean everyone is entitled to a few bad days... so I gave away half the Commonwealth to raiders. That's no reason to distrust me. Is it??? I mean I'm almost done cleaning up the mess but Press' just stubborn to his "ideals" and "morals" stiff military type!!! How could you turn on your General like that??? Damnit I gave him orders, this is the Army now, I'm in charge and you NEVER EVER question the decisions of a commander in charge! NEVER!!!

...oh sorry, I just got carried away. This game is my life now. How pathetic, I know, but it is what it is. I bought some stuff from Bethesda store. A Quantum Power Armor pin and a Nuka Girl pin, and a Grognak the Barbarian shirt. I'm a total geek!!! Don't forgive me.

Have never had guns doing no damage issue if I have the perk for it. In other words, I do know, if I do not have a perk in a weapon type. the damage, esp on high levels , can appear to not even do any damage.

But that is not a issue, because I tend to only use weapon types which I have perks in. lol.

On your terminal not opening doors, this has been a common bug for me as well. What I found out to correct is, use the terminal and then do a quick save. It always opens them for me right after doing the save.

Same helps with the quest, The Big Dig and the robot. It will sometimes just stand there and not blast the hole. Do a quick save and then he will.

There are several so called bugs in the game, which can have ether a simple solution or are not a bug. Not saying there are no bugs in the game. Esp with some quests and graphical ones.

As I said, I have had the issue of guns doing "no damage" (actually they were doing 1-2 DMG) but that occurred - consistently and repeatably - after uninstalling certain firearm mods but continuing from the same saved game.

I have recently discovered that I know nothing about damage types and shielding from damage types. The numbers in Far Harbor are now off the charts with my targets being Shipwreckers which I only just now looked, (after fighting the things for days with so many different weapons) has a 4000 ballistic damage number. Nothing in my arsenal even comes close to going over 300. !!!!! Okay, I may be very far ahead of my abilities as I have only gone to 20% of the Commonwealth primary locations. I may be missing some valuable training and some legendary weapons. I noticed that the beast has only 200 energy protection, and a null symbol over the radiation and water damage what exactly does the null symbol mean? Can't be hurt by it??? Also, I have been very far south in the Commonwealth and haven't noticed the numbers at all but the sledge and harvester do considerable damage.

Also, I have reached level 60. Does that have anything to do with anything at all??

Null means immune yes.

With 4000 DR vs 300 ER you definitely want to engage that critter with an energy weapon.

Normally in F04 ballistic weapons rule but you have found one of the exceptions.

The way DR and ER work your weapon will do 50% damage if its DMG = the DR or ER. So if you had a laser that did 300 DMG energy that would take 150 HP per shot off a target with 300 ER. If you had a rifle with a DMG of 4000 (not possible) it would take 2000 HP per shot off a target with 4000 DR.

Things that increase DMG are Perks and weapon mods, including legendary effects. Sounds like you need some of those.

It's unusual to go straight to Far Harbor so you have certainly made a challenge for yourself.

Yes the enemies HP and resistances generally scale up with your level.

There's also a glitch reported for Defend The Castle where everything except melee stops doing damage.

Thanks for taking the time to give so much detailed info. It actually makes sense to me. However, please explain how all their guns do no damage to me except melee. When they punch me or hit me with their rifles I get a tickle. I've been now taking on Rust Devil gangs with their automatrons and the other robot they have with them (the one with the treds), with nothing but my fists. I noticed my strength perk is not at full, and I had no Iron Fist so I wasted a level on it in the middle of the fight with asaultron while she was getting ready to hit me with a heatwave thing. I think Bethesda wanted to give us a good feel for all possibilities in combat. War never changes!!! I gave Nick my Nuka grenades and he seems to know how to use them very well :) ROFL!!!!!

This does sound like a bug, maybe one of the two I mentioned earlier.

In my very first playthrough, just screwing around at the start with a throwaway character named "Test" to get a feel for the game and controls, I found a fire axe and kept running then suddenly a legendary deathclaw with a skull symbol was there. I just swung the axe, and kept swinging over and over and over. I was level 2 only. I kept staggering the deathclaw though. Possibly I had a bunch of strength, possibly I had some power armor found on the road, I don't remember. Eventually I whittled it down enough that it mutated, which surprised me and I didn't know what was going on. And I kept swinging. I got it down maybe 7/8s after it mutated when it finally got in its first swipe and killed me.

The game has totally flipped out now!!! PS4 version is not playable anymore. I deleted all DLC, and all my saved games, and started a fresh game. Everything seemed normal until I had to go to the vault. The door wouldn't open (even though I opened it moments ago to talk to the vault-tec guy). I was able to walk right through it though and made it up to the vault. There were things wrong. The vault-tec guy who usually appears at the gate trying to get in, was missing. Talked to the guard and he let us in but when we got to the elevator there were no neighbors on it, just me and my son and my wife. Then the game locked up at that point. Everything was still moving but the game would not progress any further.

Sounds like you need to reinstall the game.
