As he/she said . are you using headphones , PC powered speakers or Like me , have your PC plugged into a home theatre system . And also what sound card your using , If you don't tell us we can't help you .

in the box, is it set higher than 16 bit DvD Qualty? If yes, set it to 16 bit DVD Quality.
You have problems with your Onkyo and I've seen a lot of product returns from that brand (and repairs) at an electronics store. It is not the game's problem.
If you still have problems after checking the game files via your Steam library option, then would be the time to start looking for other causes.
I have all the official DLC installed and only 1 mod which is a textures mod. All drivers are up to date, game is fully updated and I have also verified the game cache files half a dozen times.
I'm inclined to think it's a Steam issue because I've started getting glitches in Skyrim and other Steam based games are giving me trouble.
Not sure if this connected to the issues but I just started the game and got a Windows Firewall alert. I made sure it was Steam and allowed access.
Just played the game for 2 hours solid without any issues.
